Nintendo Quietly Orders Millions More Switch 2 Consoles

Nintendo has quietly instructed its assembly partners and parts suppliers to ramp up manufacturing for its Switch 2 game console, aiming to heavily beat its own cautious initial market estimates, Bloomberg is reporting.

The Kyoto-based gaming giant has requested the assembly of roughly 20 million Switch 2 consoles for the current fiscal year ending in March 2027. This newly adjusted production quota represents a substantial 20 per cent boost over the public sales outlook of 16.5 million units that the company shared with investors earlier this month.

The production surge follows a period of volatile market tension for Nintendo. Just weeks ago, the company issued a surprisingly downbeat projection that sent its stock tumbling 10 per cent in Tokyo. Executives cited significant economic pressures, including an ongoing global memory chip shortage and upcoming U.S. tariffs.

However, veteran industry analysts point out that lowballing early figures is a staple of the company’s long-term financial strategy. Serkan Toto, a Tokyo-based game industry consultant, noted that the console maker faces no real downside by sharing incredibly safe estimates publicly, only to shatter them as actual consumer demand materialises.

We saw this exact strategy play out during the last fiscal cycle. Nintendo originally projected a modest 15 million in hardware sales, but ultimately ended up shipping 19.9 million units worldwide.

The sudden manufacturing acceleration suggests that the corporate mood in Kyoto is shifting toward aggressive optimism. Industry insiders believe the push is designed to build up a healthy inventory buffer before the critical winter holiday shopping window, mitigating any potential component supply shocks.

While economic factors like the impending September price hikes in North America and Europe could test consumer discretionary spending, early indicators show that core brand loyalty remains incredibly strong. Long lines have already begun forming outside electronics retailers in Japan as buyers look to secure units ahead of localized price adjustments.
