iOS 27 Siri Waitlist Might Leave iPhone Users Furious
While Apple is preparing to announce a massive Siri overhaul powered by Google Gemini for iOS 27, the highly-anticipated update might launch with a waitlist, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Gurman notes that the upcoming WWDC 2026 event will heavily focus on artificial intelligence, a massive Siri overhaul, and a major cleanup of Apple’s core operating systems.
The absolute headline of the event will be Siri. While Apple first previewed a smarter version of its digital assistant two years ago, true next-generation capabilities have been repeatedly delayed. Thanks to a major partnership finalized earlier this year, Apple is now leveraging a custom version of Google’s Gemini model to give Siri full chatbot capabilities in iOS 27.
Instead of just responding to voice prompts, Siri will evolve into a system-level assistant similar to ChatGPT or Claude. Rumours indicate that Siri will get its own dedicated app, featuring an iMessage-style conversation view where users can look through their past chat history. This history will sync across devices using iCloud.
However, early adopters should brace themselves for a slow rollout. Gurman notes that Apple still labels this new Siri as a beta internally. Because of this, the company may introduce a waitlist system when iOS 27 launches in the fall, gating access to the most advanced features to manage server demand.
Beyond the headline AI features, iOS 27 is being described internally as a stability-first update, drawing heavy comparisons to Mac OS X Snow Leopard from 2009.
Rather than overloading the iPhone with flashy interface gimmicks, Apple’s engineering teams have spent months hunting for software bugs, cutting out bloatware, and optimizing overall performance. This is especially true for the “Liquid Glass” design aesthetic introduced last year. To address readability complaints, Apple will introduce a transparency slider so users can adjust contrast to their liking.
The developer betas for iOS 27, macOS 27, and watchOS 27 will be available for download immediately after the June 8 keynote, with the final public release scheduled for September.
