More Apple Features Are Coming This Fall. Here’s Everything Else From WWDC.
Apple has announced a wave of new features coming to its core services later this year, following a packed (that’s an understatement) WWDC keynote presentation yesterday. The tech giant revealed updates that will change how users interact with Apple Maps, manage their digital wallets, and share location details with family and friends.
“We’re excited to bring powerful new features and intelligence to hundreds of millions of users across Apple services, making their experiences even more useful and fun,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services, on Tuesday. “From new exploration tools with Flyover and Local Lists in Maps, to more convenient ways to pay and get paid in Apple Wallet, to the continued expansion of video podcasts in Apple Podcasts on Mac and in tvOS, and so much more — these updates reflect our commitment to creating experiences that truly make a difference in people’s lives.”
The upcoming software releases, scheduled to debut this fall, focus heavily on incorporating intelligence and more granular user controls across multiple device platforms. Developers already have access to the first betas of iOS 27 and more, so more features are being uncovered through deep dives. But below are the following features Apple wants to highlight. Let’s check them out.
Apple Maps Gains Enhanced Flyover and Local Lists
Apple Maps is receiving a major visual upgrade with an enhanced Flyover experience. The feature combines aerial photography with artificial intelligence to offer highly detailed, lifelike views of selected cities worldwide.
In addition to visual updates, Apple is launching Local Lists for users in the U.S. This feature leverages data trends to curate popular local spots for dining, entertainment, and family outings. Apple noted that these recommendations are generated using privacy-focused insights that are never linked to individual user accounts.
Greater Control in Find My and a Unified Watch App
The Find My ecosystem is getting more flexible location-sharing options. Users will soon be able to set custom durations for location sharing, allowing it to automatically turn off after a specific number of minutes, hours, or days. It also includes the ability to pause location sharing with specific contacts until the end of the day.
For Apple Watch users, a newly designed, unified Find My app will replace the separate apps currently used for devices, items, and people. The updated interface centres around a map view and supports Precision Finding to help locate paired devices like the iPhone, AirTag (2nd generation), and AirPods Pro 3.
Visual Intelligence Comes to Apple Cash and Wallet
Apple Wallet is introducing several updates aimed at simplifying daily transactions. A new bill-splitting feature powered by Apple Intelligence allows users to scan a physical receipt or use a photo of a bill to distribute costs.
Using the new Siri mode in the Camera app, pointing an iPhone at a receipt will automatically calculate individual totals, including tax and tip, so users can send exact payments via Apple Cash (well, those in the US only; Canadians will have to figure it out on their own by using an e-Transfer or paying cash).
Furthermore, users can now digitize physical loyalty and membership cards by scanning barcodes or taking screenshots, saving them directly into Apple Wallet. These passes can be pinned to the Smart Stack on the Apple Watch for quick access.
Enhanced Checkout with Apple Pay and Tap to Share
Online checkout via Apple Pay is getting a design refresh. Users can swipe to switch between payment cards, and eligible cards will display rewards points balances, debit balances, and pay-later details directly on the screen.
For in-store merchants using Tap to Pay on iPhone, Apple is introducing Tap to Share. This feature allows customers to securely transmit details like shipping addresses, emails, and loyalty points to a merchant’s iPhone with a single tap. Customers can also review their shopping cart items in real time on their own screen before confirming the payment.
Audio, Video, and Fitness Updates
Apple shared several other updates coming to its entertainment and wellness services:
- Apple Podcasts: Video podcasts are expanding to macOS and tvOS, complete with picture-in-picture capabilities on Mac and a fully redesigned interface for Apple TV. A new search function will also let users look for specific episodes directly within a show’s page.
- iCloud Shared Albums: The service will now support full-resolution photo sharing, expanded file types, emoji reactions, and temporary collaborative albums that do not count against personal iCloud storage limits.
- Apple Music: Lyrics Translation and Lyrics Pronunciation features are expanding to support new language pairs, while AutoMix transitions are being improved and brought to tvOS and HomePod. Apple TV 4K will also gain support for Hi-Res Lossless Audio.
- Apple Fitness+: A new three-week progressive program called Strong Through Menopause is launching, featuring targeted yoga and strength workouts designed to help users navigate balance, mobility, and stress reduction.
Developer testing for these features begins this week, with a public beta scheduled for next month ahead of the official free software updates this fall.
