Deezer’s New Tool Exposes AI Tracks on Spotify, Apple Music
Deezer is has just launched a free online AI tool, giving music streaming users across 20 of the most common platforms the opportunity to check if their playlists include AI-generated tracks.
Available in 27 languages, the new “AI Music Detector” does not limit its functionality to Deezer subscribers. Instead, it lets users from over 20 rival streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music, to connect their accounts and scan their personal playlists for synthetic tracks.
The launch follows alarming data released by Deezer regarding the sheer volume of artificial audio entering the streaming ecosystem. According to internal metrics, nearly 75,000 fully AI-generated tracks are uploaded to streaming services every single day. This massive influx accounts for roughly 44 per cent of all new music deliveries globally.
While these robotic songs make up only a tiny sliver of actual consumer listenership, estimated at 1-3% of total streams, their presence remains highly controversial. Deezer executives revealed that up to 85% of the plays generated by these AI tracks are entirely fraudulent.
To combat this, Deezer developed an in-house system to spot and flag music built by generative platforms like Suno and Udio. The platform automatically strips detected AI music from its editorial playlists and algorithmic recommendations. Now, the company is handing that exact technology over to the public to let consumers audit their own listening habits.
“By detecting and tagging AI generated music over the past year and a half, Deezer has been at the forefront of transparency in music streaming,” said Alexis Lanternier, CEO of Deezer. “No other company has followed our lead yet, so we decided to make it possible for everyone to check if their playlists include synthetic music, no matter which streaming platform they use.”
Listeners who want to audit their libraries can visit the official web tool, select their current music provider, and grant the secure scanner permission to review their saved songs.
