Victor Dodig officially took over as President and CEO of Telus yesterday, stepping into the role after joining the company on May 1, 2026 as CEO Designate.

Dodig took over from Darren Entwistle, who retired on June 30, 2026 after 26 years running Telus. The whole handoff was planned well in advance and first announced back in February of this year. As for Dodig, he’s been a Telus Board of Director since 2022.

“I am honoured to take on this role and look forward to an exciting next chapter in Telus’ growth,” said Victor Dodig, President and CEO of Telus, on July 1, in a press release. “Telus has a strong foundation across its networks, its people and the communities it serves. I want to thank Darren for his extraordinary leadership over 26 years in building that foundation and for his invaluable partnership through this management transition. I look forward to spending time with our team members, our customers and the investment community – to listen, to learn, and to build on that foundation by driving growth and delivering value to all our stakeholders with discipline and focus,” said Dodig.

Dodig has over 30 years of executive experience, which includes 11 years as President and CEO of CIBC, where he led a major strategic and financial turnaround at one of Canada’s biggest banks.

Here’s his full announcement from yesterday on LinkedIn as well:

Happy Canada Day!

Today is an especially meaningful day for me.

On Canada’s birthday, I have the extraordinary privilege of beginning my first day as President and CEO of TELUS.

For more than a century, TELUS has helped connect Canadians to one another and to opportunity. Today, we are also a global technology leader, serving customers in more than 45 countries while remaining proud of our founding roots in Canada.

I step into this role with deep gratitude.

To Darren Entwistle, thank you for your visionary leadership over the past 26 years. Your unwavering belief that business can create both economic and social value has shaped a remarkable company, an extraordinary culture and a legacy that will endure for generations.

To our more than 100,000 team members around the world, thank you for everything you do every day. It is your passion, innovation and commitment to customers and communities that make TELUS the company it is today. I am honoured to be on this journey with you.

Canada has always been at its best when we embrace change with confidence, innovate with purpose and work together to build something bigger than ourselves. Those values have never mattered more.

As we look ahead, my commitment is simple: to build on the incredible foundation that has been created, continue investing in the future, harness the transformative power of technology and AI responsibly, and ensure TELUS remains a company that creates lasting value for our customers, our communities, our investors and our team members.

I couldn’t be more excited for what lies ahead and look forward to making the future friendly together.

Happy Canada Day to everyone across our beautiful country.

As for Entwistle, he’s stepped down from the Telus board and picked up the title of CEO Emeritus, and he’ll stick around as an advisor to Dodig through April 30, 2027 to keep the transition running smoothly.

Your experiences will be best suited with experiences that Mark Carney has to lead the most technologically advanced company in Canada 🇨🇦 and internationally to achieve even greater heights for the organization. I will say you have big shoes to fill when taking over. Keep the fundamentals mission and vision in scope and you will maintain corporate purpose of organization. Welcome to your new role.
