New Google Photos AI Tool Instantly Fixes Badly Lit Videos
Housed directly inside a redesigned Create tab within the Google Photos app, a new automated editing tool can completely alter the visual style, lighting, and backgrounds of recorded video clips with just a few taps.
The feature aims to eliminate the complex learning curve traditionally associated with desktop editing suites or third-party mobile apps. Instead of forcing users to manually tweak individual color wheels, the software relies on advanced AI to handle the heavy lifting.
According to the official announcement, the tool is powered directly by Google’s latest Gemini Omni artificial intelligence model. This underlying system is built to process multiple data formats simultaneously, allowing it to interpret text instructions alongside video, audio, and still images to generate highly realistic adjustments.
The application introduces the feature through a curated selection of pre-made visual templates. Users can open a video file from their library, navigate to the creation interface, and choose from several distinct aesthetic filters. For instance, the software can render standard smartphone footage into moving artwork, transforming real-world frames into stylized watercolors, graphite sketches, or 3D animations.
Beyond simple artistic filters, Video Remix introduces highly functional adjustments that target common recording issues. A key feature is cinematic relighting, which lets the AI map the three-dimensional geometry of a scene. If a video was captured in low light or harsh shadows, the app can intelligently add virtual morning light or boost exposure without making the footage look artificial.
Additionally, the tool includes advanced semantic segmentation. This allows the software to isolate the primary human or animal subjects in a clip and cleanly swap out the background. A user can record a video in a messy living room and instantly replace the background with a colorful backdrop or a clean, minimalist setting.
While the automation tool simplifies the video creation process, Google is limiting access to its higher-tier ecosystem. Video Remix is rolling out globally starting today, but it is exclusively available to users who hold premium Google AI Plus, Pro, or Ultra subscriptions.
