Google Earth has added new AI tools directly into its web platform, allowing people to generate custom imagery on top of real satellite photos. Powered by the Nano Banana 2 generator (Google’s AI image generator), the feature lets users zoom in on any neighbourhood on the map and visualize potential changes or historical scenes.
Anyone using the browser version of Google Earth can just pick a place on the map, click a button to start creating an image, and enter a detailed prompt.
Teachers and history enthusiasts can use the tool to travel back in time. Entering a prompt about the ancient ruins of Pompeii can transform modern stone remains into a colourful, bustling street scene from 78 A.D.

The platform can also generate informational graphics, such as pulling historical facts about the Statue of Liberty into a simple visual layout, stepping things up for teachers, for example.
Other practical uses? Google mentions real estate development and home design to imagine future renders. Urban planners can transform an empty lot in Tokyo into a vibrant retail centre with open green spaces. Homeowners considering a renovation can test ideas, such as placing a modern, sustainably sourced cabin next to a lake before starting construction work.
The update is available globally starting today for everyone using Google Earth on the web.
