Yahoo Weather App Gets a Full Redesign, Now Available in Canada

Yahoo has rolled out a redesigned version of its Weather app, and it’s available now for iOS users in Canada and worldwide. The update brings a cleaner layout along with better forecasting, interactive radar, and a lot more environmental data than the old version had.

The biggest change is how the app frames a forecast. Instead of just handing you a number, there’s a new daily narrative that explains what’s actually changing through the day. There’s also minute-by-minute precipitation forecasting through MinuteCast, personalized notifications, and layouts built separately for iPhone and iPad.

Radar got a proper overhaul, maps are faster and more responsive, and the app now includes future radar so you can see where a system is heading rather than only where it has been. You can save multiple locations to track at once, and severe weather alerts come as tappable widgets you can customize.

The data side has expanded well beyond temperature. The app now covers air quality, pollen, UV index, wind, humidity, visibility, and moon phases, which is a useful spread if you’re an allergy sufferer or planning anything outdoors.

There’s also a new feature called Coming Up, which pulls out the week’s most significant weather moments so you can see what’s ahead without scrolling through a full seven-day forecast. The app says weather data is from AccuWeather.

“Weather is a digital experience people return to constantly, often multiple times a day. They’re not just looking for the forecast. They’re looking for context to help them navigate and plan their day,” said Mike Park, Head of Yahoo Weather, in a statement to iPhone in Canada. “We reimagined Yahoo Weather around that need, combining smarter forecasts, more unique insights and a beautifully designed experience that makes checking the weather more useful and more enjoyable.”

The new Yahoo Weather app is available to download now on the App Store. And yes, there are widgets too. If you’re a weather app junkie this looks like a nice update. BTW–also available in the Google Play Store, too, but the new update hasn’t rolled out yet.

Back in 2013, the Yahoo Weather app received an Apple Design Award at WWDC, the same year it expanded the app to the iPad.

Hello! I just checked and it looks like this new update for the Yahoo weather app is also available on the Google Play Store today as well! (correction: it looks like it is available by look at the previews of the app in the google play store, but when you download it, it does not give you the new update version that is displayed in the previews of the app!)
