Rogers has switched on 5G service in Matane-sur-Mer, Quebec, bringing faster wireless to the west end of Matane.
The area in Quebec’s Bas-Saint-Laurent region is home to both the Port of Matane and the Matane Industrial Park, major economic contributors to the city, the region and the province, so there’s a steady mix of maritime traffic, shipping and industrial work happening there every day.
“As Canada’s most reliable wireless network, we’re investing in expanding 5G service to more places like Matane‑sur‑Mer,” said Edith Cloutier, Regional President, Quebec & Atlantic, Rogers. “This new 5G service will strengthen connectivity for residents and local businesses.”
Rogers says it has invested nearly $40 billion in its networks over the past decade, and this expansion builds on that.
The launch fits the pattern we’ve seen from Rogers over the past year, which has been all about plugging coverage gaps in rural, regional and transit areas across Eastern Canada.
In Ontario, the carrier has been lighting up new towers through the $300 million Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) Cell Gap Project, connecting rural municipalities and First Nations communities.
Matane-sur-Mer pushes that footprint into coastal Quebec for the business community and beyond.
