A brand new cloud-streaming app is launching on Steam. Players can stream PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games on Steam Deck and Steam Machine using the app. Developed by Inside Internet, Asobi: Remote Play has opened up a playtest.
Described as an “independent remote streaming client for your own PS4 or PS5 console, Asobi: Remote Play supports the ability to stream select PlayStation 5 games that you’ve purchased without having to own a console. This is all thanks to its feature of streaming games straight from the cloud. Up until now, the only way to stream PlayStation 5 titles without a console was by using the PlayStation Portal handheld.
To take advantage of this, players will need an active PlayStation Plus Premium subscription, which supports cloud streaming (where available). During its playtests, players can access a multitude of features offered by the Asobi: Remote Play app.
Once the app fully launches, Inside Internet is planning to offer two tiers to choose from. The free Core tier supports 1080p streaming at 30fps with automatic bitrate adjustments based on your network. You’ll also be able to sync multiple local profiles to swap and use. Of course, if you’re an existing PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 owner, you can connect your console for remote streaming.
The single-purchase tier (Canadian pricing TBD) provides 1080p at 60fps streaming with upscaling up to 4K. On supported monitors, 120fps support is enabled. The paid version also includes low-latency modes, manual bitrate options, controller haptics, on-device gyro inputs and a full-screen experience.
On the app’s subreddit, Asobi’s developer, Ichenzo, wrote that the playtest is now available. Those who have signed up through the Steam page will receive an email. Playtesters are encouraged to report bugs or issues on the Reddit page.
Ichenzo also confirms that a Windows 11 version of the app is in development. When asked if Windows 11 will be supported in the future, the developer responded, saying, “I’m hoping to add the Windows version soonish.”
