The Open Road, Fully Powered: Matching Your RV Setup to How You Travel

Canadian RV season is short enough that you make every weekend count, and the thing that catches people off guard isn’t the driving. It’s the power that runs your fridge overnight, keeps your laptop alive at a boondocking site with no hookups, and makes the coffee maker work at 6 a.m. when you’re parked two hours from the nearest town.

What a couple in a camper van needs for a long weekend is nothing like what a full-time family in a Class A needs in February, which is why Bluetti built three setups instead of one.

Weekend trips and compact rigs

For camper vans, truck campers and smaller trailers, space is the real constraint. The Elite 300 with a 500W solar panel runs $2,699 CAD in Canada, down from $2,999. Frost & Sullivan certified it as the world’s smallest 3 kWh portable power station, packing that capacity into roughly the footprint of a 2 kWh unit, which matters when your storage bay is already full of camp chairs.

It’s properly RV ready rather than RV adjacent. There’s a TT-30 outlet to plug the rig in directly, plus a 12V/30A DC port for running lights and appliances. Output sits at 2,400W with 4,800W lifting, so a microwave or small heater isn’t off limits, and the 10 ms UPS switchover keeps sensitive gear running when you swap between shore power and battery. Nothing here requires drilling holes or rewiring, so it comes into the house between trips as storm backup.

Longer journeys and bigger trailers

Class C owners, fifth wheel families and overlanders need two things a single portable unit can’t deliver: more storage, and fast recharging. Waiting on solar to catch up sort of defeats the point of a road trip.

The Apex 300 with Charger 2 sits at $2,698 CAD, down from $2,799, and scales from 2,764 Wh all the way to 58 kWh, with output running from 3,840W to 11.52 kW depending on how you build it out. Add a B300K or B500K and you’re sizing to your actual usage instead of guessing two years ahead.

Charger 2 is the piece that changes the math, pulling power off your alternator while you drive so every travel day becomes a charging day. Bluetti rates the second-gen automotive-grade LiFePO₄ cells for 17 years, and pairing the system with a SolarX 4K pushes solar input as high as 19.2 kW. You also get 0 ms UPS switchover, a 12 kW bypass for HVAC and EV loads, and dual 120V/240V for home backup. Until August 16 EDT, buying it with a B300K or B500K gets you a free Elite 10, which is a nice little bonus.

Full-time living

The 5 kWh RV Kit is $4,299 CAD from $4,899, built around the RV5 with B4810 battery, EPanel and EPad. Its 5,000W output ends the one-appliance-at-a-time game, so A/C, microwave and coffee maker can all run together.

Charging comes from three directions: 1,800W solar, 1,200W off the alternator, or a fast 5,000W from shore power when you land somewhere serviced. The LiFePO4 pack is rated for 6,000-plus cycles, which works out to a decade of use. It’s UL certified and IP65 water resistant for road vibration and spills, and despite being a full onboard system it’s still plug and play rather than a job for an electrician. The trade-off is honest enough: 5 kWh gives you full control but finite run time, so heavy A/C use in an Okanagan August means topping up daily.

Every road leads somewhere. The point is having enough power to keep going once you get there.
