Trump Asks Apple to Rename Lake Ontario to ‘Lake America’ on Maps

Lake Ontario is becoming a thing of the past for American users it seems. After Google made the change, now it appears it’s Apple’s turn, according to Reuters.

U.S. President Donald Trump spoke directly to Apple about renaming Lake Ontario to “Lake America” on its mapping platform, according to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum on Monday.

The move comes as Google Maps has already updated the body of water’s name for users inside the United States following a recent executive order.

Speaking during an interview on Fox Business’ “Mornings with Maria” program, Burgum indicated that the tech giant might make the adjustment shortly.

“The president reached out to Apple directly, so I’m sure that we may be seeing that change coming up soon to Lake America,” Burgum said.

The push to rename the body of water follows an executive order issued by Trump on Thursday targeting the smallest of the five Great Lakes. The move looks to be the ultimate ragebaiting move as the US-Canada trade war is ongoing, with Canada recently walking away from negotiations. Ontario Premier Doug Ford told Trump to “kiss my ass” numerous times in interviews with the media. That move seems to have angered the U.S President.

The U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is in charge of maps names across federal agencies and American mapping databases. But there’s no influence on the naming of Lake Ontario in Canada and also other nations outside the USA.

If you’re getting a sense of deja vu right now, you’re not alone. Last year, Trump also made an executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America. That move resulted in both Google and Apple updating their mapping apps to reflect the new name. Yes, this is real life, folks.
