Sonos has introduced two new products alongside its Sonos 27 software update: the Beam Ultra soundbar at $949 CAD and the Sonos Ace Ultra headphones at $599 CAD. Both are up for pre-order now in Canada, with a launch set for September 29.
The Beam Ultra is Sonos’ new mid-size soundbar, and it keeps the compact Beam footprint while delivering true 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos.
It packs nine custom drivers, including two dedicated up-firing drivers for the Atmos height channels, plus what Sonos describes as warmer bass. There’s also a redesigned centre channel aimed at dialogue clarity, with four levels of AI Speech Enhancement and a Night Sound mode for late viewing.
You can expand it the usual way with a Sub or rear surrounds. Thanks to the new portable surrounds feature in Sonos 27, those rears can now be compatible Sonos portable speakers rather than dedicated units, so a Move 2 sitting on a shelf can pull double duty.
“Beam Ultra and Sonos Ace Ultra are physical manifestations of what we mean when we say ‘sounds like Sonos’ – they combine next-gen innovation, acoustic design, and audio engineering into something only decades of learning in real homes can create,” said Tom Conrad, CEO of Sonos, in a statement on Tuesday. “But the real magic happens when they take advantage of the system around them to fit your mood, whether that’s the awe of movie night, or the joy of carrying its soundtrack into your headphones the next morning.”
The Beam Ultra connects over WiFi, Bluetooth and HDMI eARC. Sonos’ Trueplay handles room tuning on the Beam Ultra.
We’re seeing a big price jump compared to the regular Beam 2 at $649, as the Beam Ultra is $300 more with its newest features at $949.
The Ace Ultra is Sonos’ new premium over-ear headphone, built around a Sonos-designed 40mm driver with Adaptive ANC running off ten microphones. Battery life is rated at up to 35 hours with ANC turned on. The Ace Ultra adds USB-C and a 3.5mm jack on top of wireless.
TrueCinema is available for the Ace Ultra when it’s pulling audio from a compatible soundbar, which means it will tune sound for you.
The interesting part is Headphone Engine 2, new hardware that links the headphones directly into your Sonos system. One press pushes whatever’s playing on your speakers into your headphones, another press sends it back, and Sonos says it works without needing your phone in range, while the feature is available in Early Access.
The Ace Ultra are priced at $599 CAD, which is the same as when they first launched back in Canada in 2024, so that’s a good thing. But the regular Ace are still at $549 (they saw a $50 price drop last fall).
Both Beam Ultra and Ace Ultra pre-orders open today at sonos.com and select retail partners, with both shipping September 29 to Canadians.
