Nintendo has a busy couple of days planned this week, with back-to-back Direct presentations beginning Tuesday with a special celebration of The Legend of Zelda.
The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct kicks things off on September 8 at 10 AM ET/7 AM PT. Nintendo says the presentation will run for roughly 30 minutes and feature “a variety” of information celebrating the franchise’s 40th anniversary. Nintendo hasn’t revealed exactly what will be shown, leaving plenty of room for speculation.

This year marks four decades since the original The Legend of Zelda launched for the Famicom Disk System in Japan. We’ve already seen Nintendo celebrate the anniversary with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which was announced for Nintendo Switch 2 during June’s Nintendo Direct with completely rebuilt visuals. It’s safe to assume that the Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct will highlight more of the game and potentially announce a release date for the awaited remake.
In 2027, Nintendo and Sony Pictures are releasing The Legend of Zelda movie. The Direct may be a great opportunity to show a teaser trailer alongside remaining casting information ahead of its April 30th theatrical debut,
Nintendo will follow the Zelda festivities one day later with a full Nintendo Direct on September 9, also beginning at 10 AM ET/7 AM PT. That presentation will run for approximately 45 minutes and focus on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo hasn’t provided any additional clues about what games will appear.
There are certainly plenty of possibilities. June’s presentation included announcements such as Kingdom Hearts IV, Xenoblade Genesis, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, and The Duskbloods, along with updates on Star Fox, Splatoon Raiders, and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave.
It’ll also be interesting to see what Nintendo has planned as Switch 2 moves deeper into its second year. The console had already surpassed 17.4 million units sold by the end of 2025, giving Nintendo a sizeable audience hungry for its next wave of games.
Nintendo is following up its core Direct with a Nintendo Treehouse: Live presentation, where viewers get to see gameplay from titles shown during the Direct. Both presentations can be watched through Nintendo’s official Direct website and YouTube.
Nintendo will also stream them through its Nintendo Today app. Two Directs across two mornings is a lot of Nintendo for this week. Dedicating an entire presentation to Zelda’s 40th anniversary suggests this week could have a few surprises in store.
