Nintendo Switch 2 Reaches 17.4 Million Units Sold

Nintendo has published its latest financial report, highlighting that the Nintendo Switch 2 has now sold 17.4 million units. The latest December quarter shows strong financials, with Nintendo maintaining its full-year Switch 2 forecast.

During the December quarter, Nintendo saw the sale of 7 million Switch 2 consoles, assisting in the company reaching 17.37 million units since its launch. Nintendo is now firm on maintaining its November forecast for Switch 2 to hit 19 million units by the end of its March 2026 fiscal year.

Nintendo’s revenue rose 806.32 billion Japanese yen ($7 billion CAD), higher than expected. The company’s net profit landed at 159.93 billion yen ($1.4 billion CAD), which again was higher than expected by analysts. Year-on-year revenue rose by 86 percent while profit rose 24 percent.

From the software side, Mario Kart World helped bolster Nintendo’s strong sales. The kart racer recorded sales of around 14 million units, while the award-winning platformer Donkey Kong Bananza sold 4.25 million units since the launch of Switch 2. Strangely, Metroid Prime 4, which was released in December, was not highlighted on Nintendo’s data. With Kirby Air Riders having sold 1.76 million units, it’s suggested the game hasn’t crossed the 1 million mark.

Nintendo’s latest financial report seemingly wasn’t impacted too heavily by the impact of increased memory prices. It appears as though Nintendo was able to hold off from an inevitable impact on components from suppliers, likely by having contracts inked during the quarter. However, like many other tech companies, it may only be a matter of time until Nintendo much approaches its suppliers for a restock of memory at likely higher prices.

2026 will likely be a big year for the brand. In February, Nintendo fans anticipate the launch of Mario Tennis Fever. This year also marks the 30th anniversary of Pokémon as well as the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, so anticipation is high for new entries in these respective franchises.
