Apple has unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, promising its fastest iPhone chip yet, its longest battery life and camera upgrades aimed at better low-light photography and more creative control.
The phones feature colour-matched aluminum and back glass for a more uniform look. Four finishes will be available: deep black, a refined silver, and two new colours called Glacier and Burgundy (the rumours were true!).
“We made massive advancements in the most important areas: intelligence, performance, battery, and camera,” Apple said during its keynote happening right now.
Inside, the new chip features newly engineered CPU and GPU cores, along with a second Neural Engine. Apple calls it the fastest chip ever put in an iPhone, although it had not shared performance figures or specific battery estimates at this point in the presentation.
Apple also teased what it describes as its most advanced Pro camera system, including improved low-light photography and a shooting capability called HyperPro. Further camera details are still to come.
For photo editing, Apple highlighted an upgraded Clean Up tool that better fills in areas after removing objects from complex scenes. Extend can expand an image’s edges to give subjects more room, while spatial reframing lets users adjust the camera’s perspective after taking a photo.
The iPhone 18 Pro also runs what Apple calls its most advanced on-device AI model. It powers more expressive Siri voices, with adjustable speaking pace and expressivity, alongside improved dictation for punctuation, spelling and capitalization. More demanding AI tasks use Private Cloud Compute.
Apple also recapped Siri AI, which can find personal information across apps, take actions and hold conversations through voice or text. A dedicated Siri app syncs conversations across Apple devices through iCloud.
Apple Intelligence will support 16 languages with this month’s operating system releases. Siri AI is rolling out in beta in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish coming in October. Some server-based features will have usage limits, with increased access included in most iCloud+ plans.
