Sony is refreshing its PlayStation Pulse audio lineup with two new wireless headsets, including a higher-end model with active noise cancellation.
The company recently announced the new PlayStation Pulse Wireless and Pulse Edge Wireless headsets, building upon the planar magnetic technology Sony introduced with the Pulse Elite headset. Both models use larger, custom planar magnetic drivers designed to produce deeper bass while retaining the detailed sound separation of Pulse Elite.
The PlayStation Pulse Wireless and Pulse Edge Wireless headsets also support PlayStation Link, Sony’s low-latency wireless audio technology. That means the headsets can connect to the PlayStation 5, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac, while Bluetooth can be used simultaneously with supported devices. Both models include integrated microphones with AI-enhanced noise rejection to filter background sounds during voice chat. Sony has also redesigned the headsets with rotating earcups, allowing them to lay flat when not in use.
The big differences center mostly on the Pulse Edge. Sony’s premium headset doubles the magnet count from four to eight per planar driver, which the company says produces richer and deeper bass. Edge also adds active noise cancellation, built-in controls for adjusting the balance between game and chat audio on PS5, and a detachable boom microphone. Removing that boom mic doesn’t disable voice chat, either, as Sony has included a secondary hidden microphone. Pulse Edge also gets an audio and microphone jack, more premium materials and an included carrying case.
The new headsets arrive as Sony continues expanding the hardware surrounding PS5 and the PlayStation Portal, with PlayStation Link increasingly becoming the connective tissue between its audio products and devices.
Both headsets will be available in White and Midnight Black, continuing the colour options Sony has used across its PS5 accessory lineup. The standard PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset launches in select markets during the 2026 holiday season, while Pulse Edge follows in early 2027.
Sony hasn’t revealed pricing, exact release dates or Canadian availability yet, saying those details and pre-order information will come later.
