Snap Launches Specs Intelligence, an AI Assistant That Anticipates Your Needs

Snap is taking a different approach to the increasingly crowded AI assistant market with Specs Intelligence, a new service designed to anticipate what you need before you ask.

Specs Intelligence works across iPhone, Mac, and the company’s new Specs augmented reality glasses. Rather than waiting for a traditional prompt, Snap says the service learns about your goals, priorities, relationships and routines through apps and services you choose to connect. It can then proactively surface relevant information or actions.

For example, Specs Intelligence could prepare questions and decisions ahead of an upcoming meeting. Before travelling, it could organize flight, hotel and restaurant details while warning about a work deadline that overlaps with the trip. The service also includes Corners, which organizes different areas of a user’s life, and Goals for tracking longer-term objectives.

You don’t need Snap’s AR glasses to use it, although that’s where things become more interesting. On Specs, users can say “Hey Specs” to have information appear directly in their field of view. That could include flight information while travelling or a morning briefing with schedules and meeting preparation.

It’s another example of tech companies betting on AI-powered glasses as the next major computing platform. Rokid recently launched its ChatGPT and Gemini-powered glasses in Canada, while XREAL is building Project Aura around Google’s Gemini and Android XR.

Snap says connected personal content won’t be used to train its AI models or serve personalized advertising, and company personnel can’t access that information.

A Specs Intelligence preview is available through the iOS app for users 18 and older in the U.S. It currently connects Gmail and Google Calendar to provide insights into how users spend their time, but doesn’t include the full service’s proactive actions. Invitation-only Mac access is also coming, with a waitlist now open.

Snap hasn’t announced Canadian availability for Specs Intelligence or its new Specs hardware.
