iPhone filmmakers can now take more direct control over depth of field when recording video on iPhone 18 Pro, with Final Cut Camera 2.4 adding support for variable aperture alongside new professional video tools.
Apple released Final Cut Camera version 2.4 as a free software update beginning today. The update takes advantage of the iPhone 18 Pro’s new Fusion Main camera, which brings aperture control to the iPhone for the first time. Apple describes it as the most advanced camera it has ever made (of course it is).
Creators can precisely adjust aperture settings while recording video or choose between shutter priority and aperture priority modes. The update also brings Cinematic mode effects to regular video, including footage captured in ProRes and Apple Log, so focus points and depth of field can be adjusted while editing in Final Cut Pro.
Apple has also redesigned Final Cut Camera from the ground up it say. Frequently used controls such as shutter angle, ISO and white balance are easier to access, while customizable overlays now include false colour and clipping indicators.
Focus peaking has also been improved with sensitivity controls. A new tally light indicates when recording is underway, while a two-finger tap clears the viewfinder to provide an unobstructed look at the shot.
With iOS 27, Final Cut Camera also gains professional video scopes, including an RGB Parade that displays the red, green and blue channels, along with a histogram.
The app now supports clean SDI output through an HDMI-to-SDI converter for broadcast-quality streaming. Genlock offset support can also compensate for image artifacts or latency differences between an iPhone and other genlocked cameras.
