iPhone Duo to Make It Easier to Toggle Focus Modes From the Lock Screen

Apple appears to have another small but useful software change in store for iPhone Duo owners. Apple may feature redesigned Focus controls on its first foldable.

Developer pdfu has discovered redesigned Focus controls built specifically for the foldable iPhone’s Lock Screen, making it easier to temporarily disable an active Focus without sifting through Control Centre.

When a Focus is active, iPhone Duo may display a dedicated button just above the Lock Screen’s bottom controls. Tapping it disables the current Focus while keeping you on the Lock Screen. Interestingly, Apple could also let you turn that same Focus back on, as long as you haven’t left the Lock Screen. Once the iPhone is unlocked, the active Focus may also appear in the status bar above the clock.

It could be a relatively minor change, but one that could prove convenient in everyday use. For example, someone leaving a meeting could quickly disable Do Not Disturb without first unlocking their iPhone and navigating through menus. Apple hasn’t formally announced the feature. pdfu discovered it while exploring Apple’s iPhone Duo simulator, so the final layout and use case could change before launch.

Apple has extensively reworked iOS 27 around its first foldable. The iPhone Duo moves system controls to the side, uses a vertical Home Screen dock and dynamically adjusts its interface as the device is opened, folded or rotated.

This isn’t pdfu’s first unannounced Duo discovery, either. The developer recently uncovered five additional StandBy faces, including a Home Camera option that can display feeds from HomeKit-compatible security cameras.

We’ll know soon how many of these hidden additions make the final cut. iPhone Duo pre-orders open October 16, with Apple’s first foldable arriving October 23.
