iPhone Duo Leak Reveals Unannounced StandBy Features

Apple’s upcoming iPhone Duo could double as a surprisingly capable smart home display, according to new features discovered within iOS 27.1.

Developer and leaker pdfu has uncovered references to five previously unannounced StandBy faces apparently being developed for Apple’s first foldable iPhone, including Home Camera, Home Modular, Flow, Fade and Snoopy.

Home Camera is easily the most interesting of the bunch. Strings in Apple’s software indicate it can display a single camera from the Home app or a grid with up to nine camera feeds. This feature could effectively turn the iPhone Duo into a portable HomeKit security monitor when it’s sitting partially folded on a desk, kitchen counter or nightstand.

Home Modular also appears focused on smart home accessories, although its exact functionality remains unclear. Meanwhile, Flow references responsive artwork, while little is currently known about Fade. Snoopy appears to bring Apple’s animated Peanuts character to StandBy after previously appearing on Apple Watch and Apple TV.

Apple has already confirmed that StandBy is getting a substantial overhaul on the iPhone Duo. Unlike existing iPhones, the Duo doesn’t need to be charging to enter StandBy. Users can set the foldable down and use either its 5.4-inch outer screen or 7.6-inch inner display as a photo frame, clock or widget hub. Apple has officially announced new Calendar and Weather faces, deeper customization and Shared Album support for Photos. Apple hasn’t announced the five newly discovered faces, and they could change or disappear before release.

We’ll find out soon enough, however. iPhone Duo pre-orders begin October 16 in Canada, with the foldable launching October 23. Pricing starts at $2,999 CAD for 256GB and climbs to an eye-watering $4,799 CAD for 2TB.
