Pokémon TCG Pocket Is Slowing Down New Expansion Releases

The Pokémon Company is making significant changes to Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, including slowing the release schedule for new booster packs.

In a new producer letter, the development team confirmed that future expansions will arrive approximately every six weeks, rather than the current four-week schedule. The change comes as Pokémon TCG Pocket approaches its second anniversary on October 30.

According to the developers, the growing number of cards introduced with each expansion has made collecting increasingly difficult. Extending the release schedule should give players more time to complete their collections before another set arrives. To compensate, the team plans to introduce additional missions and events between expansions.

The next major series begins in late October, introducing dual-type Pokémon to expand the game’s battling mechanics. Players can also expect new ways to collect cards, including mission-earned immersive cards and a special First Partners pack featuring starter Pokémon from all nine regions.

The update will introduce Community Decks, allowing players to browse publicly shared decks and recreate them using cards they already own. Rental decks are also being updated. Players will be able to borrow decks associated with newly released booster packs without usage limits, including for versus battles. Trading and sharing improvements are planned to make it easier to identify missing cards and see which cards appear on another player’s wishlist.

The changes follow several major expansions this year, including Everyday Wonders and Mega Shine. The Pokémon Company says the planned features are still in development, so details and release timing could change.

Pokémon TCG Pocket is available to download for free on iOS and Android.
