Pokémon TCG Pocket Adds Dual-Type Cards in New Dual Fusion Expansion

Pokémon TCG Pocket is introducing dual-type cards for the first time, giving players new ways to build decks and approach battles.
The Pokémon Company announced that the upcoming Dual Fusion expansion launches on October 29, just ahead of the mobile game’s second anniversary. The expansion introduces Pokémon cards with two different types, potentially opening up new strategies.
Headlining the set are Mega Mewtwo X ex, which combines Psychic and Fighting types, and Mega Greninja ex, which features Water and Dark types. Fan favourites including Pikachu, Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise will also receive new cards featuring updated illustrations. The new expansion follows Everyday Wonders, which introduced more than 70 collectible cards earlier this year.
Alongside the expansion, Pokémon TCG Pocket is introducing a new booster pack format. Beginning October 31, players can open Special Pack: First Partners, featuring starter Pokémon from all nine regions of the Pokémon universe. Unlike regular booster packs, special packs require a separate stamina system that replenishes once per week. Each pack also guarantees at least one star rarity card.
The First Partners packs will remain available until December 26. Meanwhile, The Pokémon Company is celebrating the trading card game’s 30th anniversary with a year-long Pikachu event.
The Pika Pika! Pikachu Missions campaign runs from October 20, 2026, through October 20, 2027. Players who log in for 10 days can earn an exclusive immersive Pikachu ex card, special Pikachu-themed packs and accessories.
Additional activities are also planned, including a second-anniversary celebration campaign, promotional card events and new missions.
Last week, it announced significant changes to its release schedule. Starting with its second anniversary on October 30, future expansions will arrive about every six weeks, rather than on the current four-week schedule.
Pokémon TCG Pocket is available for free download on the App Store and Google Play.
