Fongo Releases “Discount Phone” App To Cut Costs For Canadian Travellers

Fongo Inc. has today announced the launch of Discount Phone app for iOS and Android, in collaboration with Discount Car & Truck Rentals, the largest Canadian-owned car and truck rental company. The free mobile app is targeted at cutting costs for travellers by offering unlimited free mobile calling and texting to landline and mobile phones in Canada.

Discount Phone makes it free to call and message almost anyone nationwide. Users can place and receive free calls to landline or mobile phones, without using their voice minutes or incurring long distance charges. Travellers can take Discount Phone with them to anywhere in the world, connect to 3G or WiFi and place calls or send messages to almost anywhere in Canada. The app also links users to Discount Car & Truck Rentals to make, view or modify their car and truck rental reservations, and access exclusive offers.

Discount Phone for Android and iPhone provides:

  • A free local Canadian phone number or users can keep their existing phone number
  • Unlimited free calls to most of Canada from anywhere in the world
  • Unlimited free text and media messages
  • Free voicemail, caller ID, call waiting and call forwarding
  • Worldwide calls for as little as 2 cents a minute

Update: Essentially this is a ‘branded’ version of the Fongo app. Users can add this version to their existing app without registering to get access to offers, discounts, etc.
