Nintendo’s Miitomo for iOS Now Available for Download in Canada

Nintendo’s first iOS app is now available for download in Canada. Miitomo is the Japanese company’s first smartphone app and it’s a social network for “one-of-a-kind conversations” with your friends.

Once you download the app, it asks you for your birthday (which you cannot change once entered) then begins to download other files for the app to work. Unfortunately it does not update in the background so you have to keep the app open.

The setup begins with you creating your Miitomo character, which will be very familiar to existing Nintendo users who have set one up before. The app can also use your app’s front camera to determine your face in a rapid series of snapshots, which you can get to choose from (which won’t look like you btw!).

From here, you can continue to customize and fine-tune yourself, setup a nickname, adjust the pitch of the pronunciation of your nickname, adjust your personality, answer some questions and then you’re pretty much done for now. Next is to add some friends from Twitter or Facebook, to learn everything about them that you didn’t already know before.

It’s a long process and if you’re into customizing yourself, you’ll get into this app. It’ll be interesting to see what Nintendo has lined up next for their smartphone titles. Can we have Super Mario Kart with GameCenter support already? Pretty please?
