A New iOS Text Bug is Crashing iPhones, iPads, and Macs

A new text bug has begun plaguing Apple users. It’s very rare that a bug of this magnitude comes around. But when it does, it can have disastrous results for the user.

According to a report from 9to5Mac, the new bug incorporates a specific string of text incorporating Italian flag emojis and characters in the Sindhi language. Once the user receives a notification containing the text on their device, whether it be iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch, it can be affected in negative ways. Users have reported their device has crashed entirely, while others have claimed to have lost touch input.

EverythingApplePro published a video on Twitter showing that the Italian flag emojis were not even necessary to cause issues, only the Sindhi characters.

As of now, it has not been discovered where the viral text originated from, though some believe it stemmed from a Telegram group. The text bug has begun to make its rounds online on social media platforms such as Twitter. However, users should be cautious as it could potentially appear through any other platforms as well.

Currently, Apple has not provided a fix to the bug. While a few savvy or otherwise brave users have tested and claimed the bug is fixed via the iOS 13.4.5 beta, it is not publically available to everyone. This may mean Apple may punch up the timeline for the 13.4.2 or iOS 13.4.5 release in order to squash this bug for good.

Until this bug is addressed by Apple, users can avoid potential headaches by disabling notifications on your device. Per 9to5Mac‘s report, if a user receives the notification, they’ll still be able to reboot their device.
