Bell and Virgin Price Increase: Connection Fee Hits $45 in October

Bell and Virgin are set to increase its connection fee by 13%, a $5 jump to $45 starting October 1, 2020, reports MobileSyrup.

The price increase comes ahead of what many are expecting to be a busy fall and holiday quarter, with new smartphones coming from Apple such as its expected iPhone 12.

The connection fee from Bell and Virgin applies to new activations and hardware upgrades. As of writing, Rogers, Fido, Telus and Koodo are still charging $40 for this, but that may change to match Bell and Virgin. Is there a way to avoid this connection fee? Carriers say it’s waived if you activate or upgrade online, which does not require interaction with humans, therefore saving them money.

Bell isn’t the only wireless carrier raising connection fees this fall. We recently told you Shaw’s Freedom Mobile is set to increase its connection fee by 50%, from $20 to $30, starting October 1, 2020.
