Is Your iOS 4.3.3 iPhone Signal Cutting Out On Fido?

After recently updating my (non-jailbroken) iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3.3, I immediately noticed that my Fido signal drops out completely and then resets itself immediately about twice every 24 hours.

For example, the Fido signal will do something like this:

  • 5 Bars > 4 Bars > 3 Bars > 2 Bars > 1 Bar > No Bars/Fido word/3G disappears > One second delay > 5 Bars/3G/Fido word back instantly

If I’m in an app checking mail, or any other app using an Internet connection, the popup “could not activate cellular data network” would appear during the one second delay mentioned above.

After swapping SIM cards, doing various restores and resets, the issue continues.

As a blogger, I am constantly using my iPhone. I’m also always watching my signal bars, especially with the iPhone 4. So when I see my bars drop and cellular network errors appear, I notice immediately. Also, I have not experienced this in previous versions of iOS.

Curious to get more information, I sourced a bunch of my local Vancouver colleagues who all use a non-jailbroken iOS 4.3.3 iPhone 4 on Fido. I spoke to 23 people and all have experienced the same behaviour as me. I also spoke to folks on Rogers and Telus, but they did not report any unusual findings.

So, I come to you Community with this query:

  • Are you on Fido, using a non-jailbroken iPhone on iOS 4.3.3 and experiencing what I detailed above?

Or

  • Are you on another carrier using a non-jailbroken iPhone on iOS 4.3.3 and experiencing what I detailed above?

The photo below is me just catching the pop-up error about to show up and signal cutting out:
