Rogers looks to be following the footsteps of its other company, Fido, in offering 5GB of free data to customers.
A text message sent out by Rogers today to select customers is offering 5GB of free data per month, indefinitely it appears.
“Great news! We added an extra 5GB of data to your plan at no additional cost. This is an exclusive offer to thank you for being a Rogers customer,” reads the text message. “You don’t have to do anything – this freebie is already on your account,” it further explains.

Rogers says customers will get notified about this change and the bonus data will show when they log in to their Rogers account online. One iPhone in Canada reader noticed the 5GB added to both of their lines earlier this morning, prior to this message being sent out.
“The 5GB of data will stay on your account for a long as you keep your plan,” explains Rogers.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen both Rogers and Fido offer 5GB of free data around the same time. Last fall, both companies offered the same bonus for a period of 24 months, but this time it seems to be indefinite.
Why the added free bonus data? When the federal government comes calling about data amounts per subscriber, the company may be able to tout higher data buckets on customer plans, thanks to these free data add-ons.
