Rogers has announced today it will be launching its LTE Max network in Manitoba, via a sharing agreement with MTS, which will bring faster download speeds to Winnipeg, Brandon, Victoria Beach, Grand Beach, Selkirk, Steinbach and Ste. Anne, as of June 17th.
Both companies have worked together since 2009 with the joint launch of the 4G HSPA+ network in the province; the same appears to be happening with this LTE network. MTS customers will be able to roam on the Rogers network when they travel outside of Manitoba.
Rogers’ LTE Max network runs on the 2100 MHz and 2600 MHz bands, which the iPhone 5 unfortunately does not support. Other devices such as the BlackBerry Z10 and Samsung Galaxy S4 will work fine on LTE Max. We have reached out to Rogers to inquire whether an iPhone 5 supported LTE network would be launching as well. Update: Rogers says this LTE Max network will support the iPhone 5.
The company tells us they plan to expand LTE to 44 more markets this spring and 95 in total by the end of 2013.
