Public Mobile Plan Changes: Some Get $5 Price Hike, Others Up to 50% Data Reduction [u]

After notifying customers some of their popular ready-made plans were expiring yesterday, Telus prepaid brand Public Mobile has now released update pricing on these particular plans.

The changes see a $5 price increase to the $25 plan, while the $40 and $45 plans see a 50% and 31% data reduction, respectively.

Check out the changes below—all of these 30-day plans come with unlimited talk and text and 3G data speeds–they only apply to new customers; existing customers need not worry:

  • $25 for 1 GB >>> increases $5 to $30
  • $40 for 5 GB >>> data amount cut by 50% to 2.5GB
  • $45 for 6.5 GB >>> data amount cut by 31% to 4.5GB

The data totals include a 500MB 3G data bonus, for customers who setup Autopay, or link their credit card for pre-authorized payments. Those setting up Autopay also qualify for a $2/month credit.

The changes put these Public Mobile plans in line with similar plans from Rogers’ Chatr, however, the latter still offers their $25 plan with 1GB 3G data—but doesn’t include outgoing calls.

We’ve reached out to Public Mobile for comment as to why these changes were made and will update this story accordingly.
