TELUS to Invest $4 Billion in BC, Upgrade Every Wireless Site to 4G LTE

TELUS this morning has announced it will invest $4 billion in new infrastructure and facilities in BC through 2018, with $1 billion set to take place this year alone.

Darren Entwistle, TELUS Executive Chair, said in a statement “we will simultaneously enhance every wireless site in B.C. with 4G LTE, the most advanced and fastest wireless technology available.”

In terms of services, part of the investment will target upgrades for its TELUS fibre optic network, wireless site upgrades, continued deployment of its 700MHz spectrum in rural and urban areas, and planning for deployment of its AWS-3 spectrum.

Last week, the company announced it had plans to invest $4.2 billion in Alberta and similarly upgrade all wireless sites to 4G LTE. TELUS now has 8.1 million wireless subscribers nationwide.
