Telus Says No Outages Caused by Rogers, as Customers Complain of Slow Data

Telus switch providers

Amid the ongoing nationwide Rogers network outage, Telus has come out to state its services are not being affected by its rival, after some customers complained about slow data and not able to make phone calls.

“The network outage affecting Rogers customers is not impacting TELUS Internet, home phone or wireless infrastructure. Some customers may experience issues when calling or texting Rogers customers. Calls and texts between TELUS customers and other providers are working normally,” said Telus on Friday.

Numerous customers responded to say their mobile data on LTE and 5G is “slow and spotty”, while others said Telus phone calls would not go through. Despite the Telus statement, Downdetector shows numerous outages being reported by the company’s customers.

There’s enough chatter about the Telus network that the company has become the number two trend on Twitter, behind Rogers.

Again, there are some funny memes taking advantage of this major wireless carrier SNAFU.

Update July 8, 1:36pm PDT: A Telus spokesperson told iPhone in Canada in a statement, “some wireless customers in Ontario may also experience slower than normal data speeds due to increased usage by customers without access to home Internet service.” The company says they will “continue to closely monitor our network capacity to ensure our customers can stay connected and updated.”

Are you dealing with any Telus internet or wireless issues at the moment?

All providers including Telus have such outages. It’s just technology, it’ll get fixed, until the next outage.

True, but I’m not sure any have been as interdependent as Rogers appears to be.

There’s a ton of services outside Rogers’ ISP (including cellular) network that are affected because the services are dependent on some part of Rogers’ network.

Not a good look for a company trying to Hoover a western ISP next.

I am with freedom. Brampton, data is working but really sluggish at full speed, 2 bars.

I’m not getting any slow data.

It’s possible that slow data on other ISPs are related to certain routing traditionally going through Rogers’ network in eastern Canada now routing through less efficient paths.
