We’ve been waiting to hear officially from Rogers regarding their iPhone 3G S pricing. Well, the wait is over as they sent out their “official” upgrade pricing details via twitter. The details are fairly complex (typical Rogers, hehe) so let’s get right down to it!

Phew! That is a lot of information to digest. What “offer” do you fall under? Many people are definitely going to be happy to hear some solid news on upgrade/outright prices to the iPhone 3G S. Now that we have it, what are you going to do?
My average monthly spend is less than $100/month for my iPhone 3G, so that means I fall under “Offer 1”. I can extend by 1 year, and pay $449 for a 16GB iPhone 3G S. Hmm…
Could these concessions be due to our petitions to Rogers and possibly the concessions made by AT&T in the USA?

Ok – so it looks like when you add the 1 extra year to your term for the special pricing, it also adds another year to your HUP. This according to a Rogers Rep who is answering questions on Twitter. So I’ll be eligible for full subsidy pricing in July 2010 – but if I take advantage of this special upgrade pricing it gets pushed back to June 2011.
So that means when Apple releases another new iPhone next year, I’ll be in the same boat as I am this year – not eligible for the subsidy pricing. So do I chance it that Rogers will again have special pricing next year for a new iPhone for those that upgraded to 3GS – or do I just wait another year and not deal with this whole mess?

Yup, a lot of us are going to be in this situation now. I would just hope/assume that rogers would offer sometihgn similar next year if/when i new iphone is released. Hey, if not there is a good chance that telus/bell will be carrying it by then anyway 😛

Fido doesn’t mention extending the contract at all, but they’re also not offering the deep discounts as Rogers is. heck, I’ll settle for not as much off the top as long as I’m still eligible in 2010. Sweet!

I’m with Fido and have a 3G model. So does that mean we receive $100 FdioDollars as a gift to use immediately towards the purchase of the non-contract 3GS?
Yes, that’s exactly what it means. $100 Fido contract to an off contract 3GS.
There’s no HUP option though, which I’d personally prefer. But in the long term it’s not much different either way.

Just got my 32 3GS from Fido with the no-contract price but the sale guys said that I can’t use my FidoDollars nor do I have the Fido 100 dollar bonus since I don’t have a data plan (he said Fido changed it) on my account. Is that TRUE????

I pay well over $100 a month, and am by no means the “cheap” customer Rogers seems to think all Fido users are. Yet somehow I differ from a Rogers customer? This makes no sense. I don’t mind extending my contract! Give me the same damn price as Rogers customers! I don’t see why we’re any different if we meet the same requirements. This is just lame.
There’s no way I’m extending my contract for another year. I would like the new 3gs, but I think it’s just better to wait until the next iphone in 2010. Like the first commenter noted I don’t want to be in the same boat next year.

Is it $100 on iphone spend or rogers wireless services. Wireless services include family plans etc.
Anything attached directly to the iPhone you’re upgrading, before taxes.
So in the case of a family plan, it’d be the portion of the plan that goes to that iPhone, not the whole plan, unfortunately.

What I want to know is what’s the deal for corporate customers? I waited until August before they would sell me the 3G, and then they charged me about $435 and extended my contract by 3 years. They screw you every way they can. The reps on Twitter couldn’t answer about corporate customers. We’re lesser beings!

LOL, don’t worry I can sell you a pair for dirt cheap. I am hesitant to bite on these short term savings. I want to jump ship once new GSM carriers arrive this Fall and early 2010 (Telus, Bell).
I just got off the phone with a FIDO rep (extremely rude probably had enough of people calling about the iPhone) and she said that it’s only the $100 credit to your account after an upgrade.
Like the rest of you in the comments I think it’s absolute horse sh*t that they won’t offer the same discounts to both Fido and Rogers customers.
Do any of you think that this might change?

I would love a faster iPhone but it really isn’t THAT important to me that I would sell another year of my cellular usage off to Rogers, (or spend $800 for a smartphone!). Three years; that was bad enough. When the next iPhone comes out, (which now might be less than a year away), I’ll buy it outright with no commitment and it won’t be too long after that when Rogers/Fido will cease to have exclusivity of the device.
Even though I qualify for the Option 2 pricing, I’m going to skip the upgrade. I’ll wait until next year. With other GSM carriers on the horizon, I don’t want any longer contract than necessry.
I was about to pay $904 until they announced this. Now its only $331. Ill add a year for that! I am also going to head to my local rogers plus instead of the Apple Store Yorkdale like I had planned. Somehow I think that the Rogers store will be better suited to personal needs. Ill keep my 11:00 reservation though, Just In Case.
Just wondering why you would pay, $799 for the no contract price. Just sign a 3 year for 299 then buy out remainder of contract (max 400) and your total is 700 and you have no contract left and you save a 100 bucks.
Don’t forget you’d have to pay the EDC fee of $100 plus 1 month of your voice plan.
Rogers.ca tells me that I will be eligible for a hardware upgrade after 7/16/2009 (one year since I bought my 3G and switched to Rogers). Any idea if the price will be less if I wait till then?

See that shit? Not even 24 hours from the launch and they announce those prices. Rogers reps were reinforcing that there would be no way to purchase the iPhone without a contract. And now? I just hope that they will be informed.
I don’t understand why Rogers would do this. Imagine if you’re a Rogers employee on the Eastcoast…you will hear about this when you SHOW UP FOR WORK in the morning, since it went live pretty late on PST.
I’m guessing because it makes Rogers look like a hero who’s looking out for the consumer. This happened last time too. There was no mention of any good data plans and at the last minute Rogers “caves” and does the 6GB and all the employees have to get briefed on the plan, with massive amounts of confusion about who is eligible and who isn’t (especially on the Fido side).
Same thing with this I take it. PR stunt. But it will sell more phones, and in the case of Rogers, extend expensive combined voice and data contracts further.
Fido has officially screwed it’s iPhone customers wanting to upgrade. Just not good enough Fido! $100 or less off! Does any one else find that insulting!
Fools. If you had done your customers right you would have created loyalty. Instead what you have made is animosicty. I’ll jump ship to a new carrier the first chance I get.
What are the costs of buying out a contract?
Would I have to then pay the full price on my original 3G?
Max voice fee is $400 (ECF).
Max data fee is $100 (DECF).
Realistically, if you cancelled, it would cost you $500, and then you could sign up again on a new 3 year plan, and pay $200-300 for the phone, and possibly on the hook for 1 more month of service (leaving you with $700-$900 total spent depending on how everithing works out).
If you take up the $100 FidoDollars offer, you’d spend $600-700 for the new phone instead.
The deal isn’t great, and I’m passing on it, but it’s better than nothing, and if you were going to buy a 3GS full price anyway, you saved $100. As for the $250 or $500 Rogers subsidy deal, it’s basically pay less now, pay more later (since now you put off your next HUP by a year, and extended the time you can be hit with a nasty ECF + DECF by a year). Either way, you’re still going to be paying eventually if you plan to keep getting a new handset every year.

Does anyone know of a good way to transfer all of my contacts/pictures/settings/ringtones/etc from my old iphone to the 3GS tomorrow?
It’s easy…just sync old phone in iTunes…then restore your 3GS with the old iPhone’s back up.
Tried this, as soon as i try to sync itunes tells me that syncing will erase all the data on my iphone….I assume thats not right, nor do i want to chance it. I guess because I manually manage my files there is no way to sync without first wiping everything on the phone??? seems stupid, there has to be any easy way to transfer from one iphone to another….c’mon apple, i cant be the only one with this problem..??

My iPhone back came with cracks that I never bothered to replace. I was thinking of replacing the phone, selling it online for $400-$500, and buying the 3gs with “offer 2” since I spend more than $100 a month on my wireless services.
Well the last part does come with a caveat. Do you think that Rogers means my bill for my specific iPhone phone # or the bill for my entire wireless services (including other phones). That makes a difference because there are a bunch of people in my household and it’s all on one bill…
what a scam. Why can’t you just cancel your plan at a max if $400 penalty (cheaper than the $450 for the 3gs under rogers). Then sign up again.
Anyhow. New phone not worth it. 3g is just fine.
I correct myself. Then you pay another $199 but at least you don’t gave to commit for another year. I think that makes more sense than buying a no contract phone.

I am currently at my local Rogers Plus, the reps have absolutely no knowledge of the $100 average per month promotion. I pulled out the iPhone and read the promotion to all reps verbatim.

Just got off the phone with a Fido CSR. He says the $100 discount is all he can offer for now, but suggests waiting a few days to see if Fido adopts the Rogers plan. We both laughed when he asserted that Fido and Rogers are two different companies. Good times, but seriously if Fido doesn’t pick up the deal I’ll pay to cancel and move it to Rogers as a new customer.
Just thought I would share my story with everyone of trying to upgrade my 3G phone this morning. Like many, I got my 3G on July 11, 2008, and I was thrilled to find out that I qualified for $500 off the no-term price (see offer #2 above) – which means my 32GB Iphone 3GS would be $299. I went to the local Rogers store this morning with a print out of the offer from the Rogers website (http://www.rogers.com/web/content/wireless-products/iphone_faqs?setLanguage=en&cm_sp=Consumer-_-Wireless_iPhone3Gs_0609_Eng-_-3GsPrelaunch_LowerBadge). In short – the store had never heard of the offer. They even had to call customer service and fax them my print out – and they still wouldn’t honour the offer. After a 90 minute ordeal, I left with no iPhone. I called cust service from home and had to read them the url of the offer on their own website. After being placed on hold for a while, they told me that they would honour the website special and are now sending me the iphone 3GS 32GB for $299. Beware of ignorant Rogers employees!
Wow, I just went in to my Rogers store in Vernon, BC — they were charging $880 before taxes for the 32gb model. I didn’t even know Rogers branded stores would do that.

I just call Rogers and ask for the new 3Gs iphone and I got the 32gb for 299$ and a contract renew for 36 month.
I will receive it in 5 to 7 days.
The plans are complete and utter crap, let’s face it.
You guys willing to shell out $800 and then go through craigslist phone selling bullshit to try and make some money back and extend your contact, blah blah….so what….the camera is 1mp better, NO FLASH, does video and there is voice command. It’s just not worth it.

Yeah. It’s been one hell of an interesting morning. I read the pricing thing last night and lined up at the Rogers store at 6:00 a.m. (first in line). Store opened at 10:00 and the first thing they told me “yes, we know about the pricing change but not all of Rogers knows about it yet so they can’t process anything. We’ll hold your phone here for you until it’s all sorted out and give you a call.”
*blinks*
Went home, and got a phone call a bit later: “things still aren’t sorted out and might not be until tomorrow…”
I’m underwhelmed.
To be honest: it’s not the call centre’s fault. Rogers chose to spring this at the very last minute and everyone’s playing catch-up. I’m grateful for the break, don’t get me wrong. It’s just not a way to run a business, that’s all.
Plus I’m f**king tired and now know that it was a waste of time lining up at the store.
Went to the Rogers Plus store…sold out. Anyway, I was interested in the off-contract option so as to avoid laying in bed another three years with this awful company. But then, any decent voice/data plan option comes with a three-year commitment and $400+$100 cancellation fee anyway. In short, it’s a complete rip off to buy the phone off-contract!
The Rogers salesperson also acknowledged that the policies of Rogers corporate are atrocious and commitment to customer service (especially for long-time customers) is almost non existent. He said that he believes Rogers is doing everything possible to lock as many customers into long-term contracts before the GSM network open to competition later this year or early next year. This is all at the expense of satisfied customers. It is with glee that I look forward to the day I walk away from this crap company.
The iphone does sound nice though. Too bad it’s attached to such a poor player in an area that should be all about providing quality service. Bunch of gouging bastards is the leadership of this company.

I’ve just been on the phone with a Fido supervisor… He told me that it was the first time that somebody complained about the difference between the two offers. We need to keep calling them if we want a change in that dumb policy. 100$ rebate on a 799$ phone… Wow!!!

i got my 3g in aug.08 . I called rogers and was offered the 199 upgrade with a one year contract extension. now Im thinking is the 200mhz faster processor,double the ram, the video feature and the compass worth 200 buck and another year with rogers given that bell and telus are building a gsm network to compete with rogers . basically does someone have a 3gs and feels like its so much faster and more usefull than their “old” 3g was??
Well at least your a 3G owner, I have the razr from them and they told me I have to wait till aug 1, 2010 to upgrade. That’s the 2.5 yr mark on my contract. I really hope more GSM competition comes soon as fido isn’t worth committing 3 yrs too.
