Toys “R” Us Canada Is Coming to Nearly 300 Staples Stores Nationwide

Toys “R” Us Canada is getting a new home, with Staples Canada announcing plans to bring the iconic toy retailer into nearly 300 stores across the country.
Staples has announced it has been named the exclusive Canadian retail partner for Toys “R” Us Canada and Parties “R” Us Canada. This effectively starts with a pilot location in Richmond Hill, Ontario, this holiday season.
The partnership, announced alongside Next Century Ipco Can ULC, will introduce dedicated shop-in-shop spaces inside existing Staples locations, with a nationwide rollout planned throughout 2027. The first location will open at 45 Red Maple Road in Richmond Hill, with a grand opening celebration scheduled for Saturday, November 14. Families attending can expect character appearances, make-and-take activities and special offers.
The new Toys“R” Us spaces will feature curated toy collections, including exclusive products, while Parties“R” Us introduces a separate concept focused on balloons, party supplies, seasonal decorations and licensed merchandise. Products will also be available through Staples Canada’s website, giving families another holiday shopping option.
“As a Canadian company, with close to 300 stores and 11,000 employees serving communities across every province, we’re proud to help write the next chapter for a brand that has been part of childhood in Canada for generations,” said Staples Canada CEO Jens Cermak.
The announcement marks another expansion of Staples’ retail offerings beyond traditional office supplies. The company previously partnered with Amazon Canada to introduce label-free returns across its national store network. Staples also introduced an electronics trade-in program with Allstate, allowing customers to exchange eligible devices for store credit.
The Toys “R” Us partnership follows Next Century’s acquisition of the brand’s Canadian trademarks and intellectual property.
It’s another example of retailers embracing dedicated spaces within existing stores, similar to Nintendo’s recently opened store-within-a-store at EB Games in Toronto.
Staples has not announced which additional locations will receive Toys “R” Us and Parties “R” Us spaces first, although the rollout is expected to continue throughout 2027.
