ZAGG invisibleSHIELD iPhone 3G Revised & Improved

Most people out there choose a variety of ways to protect their iPhones. Some like silicone cases, some like leather cases, and some like protective-film cases. So far I’ve reviewed BestSkinsEver, BodyGuardz, PhantomSkinz, Case Mate Clear Armor, and ZAGG’s invisibleSHIELD. I can’t tell you what is the “best” as everyone has their own personal tastes. However, the one and only film I’ve had on my first gen iPhone and iPhone 3G is the invisibleSHIELD.

Just recently ZAGG has revised and improved the back piece of their invisibleSHIELD. In particular they improved the corner pieces for a better fit and added separate top and bottom bezel pieces. They sent me their new improved back piece for review and I installed it last night. It is is much better than their previous versions!

For starters, the back corners have changed to a different design. On the old design, there was too much “plastic” in the corners which would result in tiny “pimples” being raised in the corners. These little pimples would be tiny but if you kept your iPhone in your pocket, the lint accumulation would make it grow bigger. With the new design, there are now cutouts to eliminate this problem altogether. The removal of some plastic will now decrease the chances of the shield getting caught or stuck when in your pocket and peeling.

Check out the following pics to see the changed design:

The new design is now shipping. Take a good look at my pictures above and make your own decision. It’s been three days since I’ve had the revised invisibleSHIELD installed and there are NO signs of any raised edges! I’m a happy camper.

Some people don’t like these plastic film protectors because it’s hard to install. Honestly though, it’s the best way to protect your iPhone 3G from scratches without hiding its beauty. The secret is in the install. You gotta have patience, patience, and patience. Make sure to overspray during the install and reapply if you mess up. Check out my invisibleSHIELD install video tutorials: part 1 and part 2.

Hi harry! I know how the 1st version of IS sucked with the corners. But call the zagg and get a new revised one! Say that ur current one is defected and does not fit in ur iPhone, and they will tell u about their new and improved iS for ur iPhone but u r gonna have to pay for the shipping and handling. It’s only 4$ or something. But u will get a brand new improved IS ^_^ since there is a life time of warranty, they will be sure to give u the new IS. hehehe. And this is how I got my new improved and revised version of IS.

Seperate pieces for the metal? Mine extends from the screen over to the metal on the top and bottem.

It has hard to tell from these pictures what it looks like. You can tell a bit on the corner picture. That is different.
They sent me the second version and now it looks like they are on their 4th version of the 3G. Sure hope it comes in this newer version for my replacement.
I looked at the Best Skins ever and their design for their corners were good right off the bat. I have ordered one of theirs too. Can’t beat 10.00 delivered. No fancy box, squeegee or spray but is supposed to be be similar vinyl.

The revised version was only released recently. If you’re going to base your solely on my recommendation then you haven’t done your research. 😉 It’s just one person’s opinion.

The 1st version of the zagg is not so great as the corners do come off… I had to slowly chop some of the protective off so it wouldn’t look bad… after i read this post, I called Zagg up to see if they would fulfill their “lifetime warranty”… and they did! Paid for the shipping and they are sending me a new one as we speak… Hopefully it will solve the issues of the corners coming off…

I bought the original one too and it lasted about 12 hours before I got so fed up with it I ripped it off and threw it out. Total piece of trash. Wouldn’t even consider buying a “new version” based on the original experience. It didn’t fit, edges peeled off. Made my expensive iPhone look like a cheap toy and provided no apparent benefit.

Sorry to hear that. So far my installs have been pretty easy so far for me and it’s worked great on my iPhone. Most people who pick up and check out my 3G don’t even know the shield is on until I tell them. It comes down to the install like I said. If you can’t do it, then this product is not for you.

People, why are you getting so fussy? How well it works is different from person to person, and anyways, you should never buy somehing based on one review, you should look around for other peoples problems with a product before you buy it.

Wow, some people must suck at putting on the shield. I have one on my 3G and it was pretty easy to install. I only had to take the back off twice to get it perfect. I have had several people take a look at my phone and not realize there was anything on it. I personally love the IS and would recommend it to everyone.

X1Zero

Yea, BOO iPhoneFan, BOO!! LOOOL!

I’ve had the IS on my iPhone for a few weeks now, and its PERFECT. I use only the front because I was too lazy to put on the back and I use pouch cases sometimes, so the FULL body would make it harder to pull the iPhone in/out of the pouch.
iPhoneFan and I actually compared shields (front only) and mine was like 1000x better! Like iPhoneFan, it truly is ALL in the install. Time and patience…and in my/iPhoneFan’s case, my install was the winner!!!

X1Zero FTW! 🙂

Well, I had one on my from an HTS and I liked it. Bought the 1st version for my 3G and the back sucked. So when I saw this, I sent a note to ZAGG and they will send me a new one, 4$ later.
Not bad as a customer service!

But I have to agree, the back piece is not the easiest to put on.

Guys, if you listen to all th erecommendations here, you’d have 10 cases on your 3G. Make your own mind please…

Tim Aucoin

LOL @ all the critics! My guess is lack of patience and not following instructions properly. Never, ever take one persons opinion as gold people. Do your own research and make YOUR OWN decision. If the first version doesn’t work for you, take it up with Zagg, they have excellent customer service IF you respect them as people and not “lose it” on them. I’ll be phoning today to see if the shields I received last week are the newer ones. If not, I’ll have them replaces. I won’t go “blaming” iPhone Fan for my decision to purchase these!!! 😀

I have the previous version of the shield and I must say that it does suck just a little bit. The corners do take some time to put on and to tell you the truth, I gave up and left it looking ugly. I got my gf another shield but it was the newer version and she put it on like it was nothing. Definitely looks better then mine and less work on the install. I’m going to call ZAGG and give the new revised one a try and if it doesn’t work out, I’ll find another alternative.

Theres no point in giving iphonefan a hard time, he didn’t manufacture the shield, he is just giving his opinion and review about it. If you decided to get the IS solely on his opinion, then its really is your fault for not researching more. Although he obviously has skilled fingers that I don’t have.

Hi,

I have got zagg invisiblesheild privately from somebody i know.
I have applied it on my 3g 16gb black one and sadly the corners does not look good.
I am not sure how to take off the old one? i just dont want to try pulling it off just like that unless there is a specific way recommended to do that.

I read in the forum you guys discussing about the new zagg invisibleshield with better cuts for corner fitting. Do you think zagg company will be willing to send me one? since i bought my previous invisibleshielf privately?

Any suggestion?
I will appreciate that.

to the above comment:
When u purchase the IS (from anybody) u MUST register the product, well unless u stole it from someoneelse or got it illegally… >_<. LOL!!!! U can go to the zagg website to register and u have 2 options to choose from, “have u purhased it from zagg website” or “thru 3rd party” which is in ur case!
So go register ur product and get the NEW and REVISED IS!!!!!! ^_^

Invisible Shield simply sucks. Even the revised version.
First of all due to the change of the design it now covers less.
Second the glue behind the film has changed and it is not now possible to soak it and move it. When you put it on, it’s there to stay, no tilting. Which again makes it impossible to install, and ridiculous to use.

can you tell the difference between old and new versions of the IS by the package?
e.g. part number, or other indication?

I notice at least one local retailer (London Drugs) is now carrying the IS for iPhone 3G. but I wonder which version it is?

My wife presented me with a iPhone for Christmas, and I was thrilled! I got one of these protectors for the front of my iPhone. I must say, it took three attempts at applying it, but after the third attempt, this protector really “shines.” People don’t even know I have a protector applied to the screen when I show them, and it’s very durable. I am impressed. By the way, the iPhone rocks! It’s so addicting!

Just received IS for 3G from Amazon. The package came complete with one exception, the spray top was loose and the bottle empty! I’m considering sending it back, but wonder if I can use another liquid instead (i.e. water)??? I don’t want to return and wait again another 2-3 weeks for shipment that may have same results. Any thoughts? Soapy water? Alcohol/water? anyone?

Exercise in frustration in putting it on. Went through the whole bottle of spray trying to get this thing on. Sticks like glue no matter how much I sprayed. Impossible to adjust. Next to impossible to get the bubbles out and get it on without finger prints. Everything sticks, except the corners. Returning this P.O.S. immediately. Too rubberyon the front makes multi-touch incredibly difficult to use.
