iPhone Firmware 3.1.3 leaked? OS 4.0 soon after?

Whoa, whoa, whoa! What is this? 3.1.3? 4.0!

So it seems that the folks over at BGR have found some evidence referencing iPhone OS 3.1.3 and 4.0. The indications were located in browser logs and seem legitimate. Check out the image below towards the top left corner.

Now, while this looks legitimate, it is very hard to confirm since these logs can be faked. There are a few browser add-ons out there that allow users to essentially input any textual data into the “user agent” fields. So take this find with a grain of salt.

With that being said, it is not hard to believe that Apple may eventually release 3.1.3 firmware, as the release would be a minor fix, mostly focusing on bug fixes and light enhancements. A 4.0 release on the other hand will be a major jump with a lot of newly added features, similar to what was experienced when OS 3.0 was released.

Maybe we can expect a 3.1.3 release sometime in January 2010? Thoughts?

I'm thinking one of these updates is going to give us the FM radio receiving (3G) and FM transmitting (3GS) that currently lay dormant in our iPhones. One can hope that this is why there's been such a delay since the last firmware release.

I say FW 3.1.3 will be released really soon and then like normal, FW 4.0 will be with the new model iPhone (4G) in 2010.

Agreed. If there is a 3.1.3, it would just a minor update. 4.0, however, could bring in some features that all other smart phones are braggng about right now. Background multitasking, for one. Just my opinion.

I think a Big update in 2010 of March would seem to fit history's previous releases. that just what plays in my mind anyways, could be dead wrong.

and a reply to Rorypiper. Iphone will not have Multitasking or Background as a built in feature without jailbreak, they addressed that issue back when 3.0 was released at the big conference in san francisco. they said it would wear out the battery to fast, and would eat up system ram.
So as nice as it would be, they already announced to the public, that will NOT be a feature. unless they change their mind for the 256meg 3GS , or 4G releases in the 3rd quarter next year.

4.0 I would like to see voice rec. on the iPod Touch 8g and the music player to pop up even when your not playing it as in 3.0

Hmm… maybe on January 26th they'll also announce 3.1.3. Maybe it'll enable wifi-N and radio on 3rd-gen touches, and maybe they'll cave to pressure from competitors and enable some greater multitasking abilities. I'd also like to see support for more installed apps. A slicker notification system would be good too.
