Apple Reveals App Store Search Results to Include More Ads in 2026
In 2026, Apple is refreshing how ads appear on the App Store with new top banner ads and more running on search results.
App Store Hits 3 Billion Downloads
Just over three months ago on September 28 2009, Apple’s App Store hit the two billion downloaded apps milestone. Today, Apple has announced that the App Store has reached three billion downloads, in only 98 days since its last milestone!
The App Store currently has over 125,000 active applications. As comparison, the Blackberry Market has 4,000 apps and the Android Market has over 18,000. The success of the App Store is amazing and it will only continue to grow!

I suspect that the Christmas/holiday rush boosted the number of downloads substantially. It will be interesting when the iTablet is released in, I assume, March 2010, as you've got to believe that much, if not most, of the content for that new machine will come from iTunes – mags, apps, newspapers, videos, TV, music, etc. Hence, if iTablet is released in March, I expect to see the 4 billionth download in time for April Fools!
