iPhone 3GS

  • Design: Same design as the iPhone 3G; Gloss back, same size
  • Screen: fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating, meaning the screen does not attract finger prints as much
  • Speed: Launching messaging is 2.1x faster; other apps are faster by almost 3x
  • Network: Supports 7.2 Mbps HSDPA
  • Camera: 3MP camera with Autofocus
  • Camera: Includes autofocus, autoexposure. Tap to focus; allows focus and white balance changing on the fly.
  • Camera: Low light sensitivity improved
  • Camera: Includes video capture. A new switch says “Still” or “Movie”; 30 FPS VGA. Videos are stored along side pictures in the Photo app.
  • Camera: Trim video with tap of your finger from within the app.
  • Voice Control: Dial people in your contact list using your voice. Hold down home button and say the name of who you want to call. The various commands you can use float across the screen when the app is open. Also can control iPod playback and playlists by using Voice. For example, you can ask “whats playing now?”
  • Digital Compass: Shows orientation in Google Maps (so you actually know which way you are moving), longitude, latitude and link to Google Maps
  • Accessibility: Voiceover accessibility setting reads what you touch on the screen
  • Nike+: Built in support for Nike+
  • Hardware encryption: Instant data wipe and encryption in iTunes as well
  • Battery: 9 hours Wi-Fi (was 6), 10 hours video (was 7), 30 hours audio (was 24), 12 hours on 2G (was 10), 5 hours on 3G talk
  • Price: $199 for iPhone 3GS 16GB White or Black
  • Price: $299 for iPhone 3GS 32GB White or Black
  • Availability: iPhone 3GS available June 19, 2009.
