This indeed is odd. I feel that they say it is only available on the Android devices, for now, because they just launched today, and they want to sell lots. They will probably extend it to their smartphone lineup soon, and probably extend the promo itself past July 1, to offer it with the new iPhone.

I seriously hope they extend the date and offer it with the new iPhone. Please Rogers, Please?!

Thoughts?

I phoned Rogers today and talked with a CSR. She said she couldn’t add it to my account. I don’t really need it until we have tethering, and I hope they keep the promotion around for the launch of the new iPhone.

Its disgusting how they treat existing customers….they should extend the offer to ALL Rogers customers. Its like a 2 tier system.

Rogers staff on the whole are either 1) useless or 2) misleading… who will say whatever it takes for you to sign up to a 3 year deal.

In the USA, a few miles away from 90% of all Canadians (as 90% of Canadians live within 100 miles of the US)….they have unlimited data/talk/text for a fraction of the cost.

We are stuck with the Rogers monopoly.

The population of the u.s. is significantly larger and they can offer these optimal plans at a cost efficient rate. Also our wireless industry operates more as an oligopoly wheras our ‘ American friends’ have many more viable options. Everyone is disatisfied with Rogers, yet they still opt to stay with rogers. If you loathe rogers to this degree then invest in a ‘roll of quaters’ and use a payphone.

Its not a case of “opting to stay” with Rogers, its a case of not having a choice if you want the certain phone (i.e. the iphone).

Also you do not apreciate what they are like until you are with them and then its too late as you are tied into a 3 year contract.

We need more competition in Canada to keep these companies on their toes and not get so complacent.

Rogers would rather sell bandwidth for $25/500M than $30/6G.
Canadian ISP’s have built a market of people who buy a large bandwidth but don’t use it. Most of the Rogers customers that will pay the extra few bucks for a larger bandwidth ‘will’ use it.
Because the iPhone is high-profile and it is widely known that it can be jailbroken and tethered (combined with the new OS’s possible ability to tether,) it makes sense that Rogers would exclude the iPhone from the 6G plan… and why they would create a 150G plan for $150.
Just my humble opinion…

There is a marked difference between ‘wanting’ and ‘needing’. An iPhone is a luxury, if it is within your economics means to purchase one and support it then do so. If not, a no frills plan and phone would suffice. I’m not attacking you personally, but in general most people on this forum adopt an analogous view. The world is filled with injustices, such as candian mobile rates, I say deal with it!

iPhone Ce, do you work for Rogers?….you seem to be defending them a good deal.

We dont “need” much, the basics of air, water and food etc…but we should expect a reasonable service and products that meet our wants…..however in Canada it seems like people here dont complain enough, they just accept things as they are and smile whilst getting fleesed.

I know the US is much bigger and has economies of scale etc….but the UK, they have similar deals and they are only twice the population of Canada.

Having Rogers as the only provider does no one any favours, they are a law unto themselves and if you want their product (iphone) you pay your money or go without.

Their CSR’s are awful and the sales people (I have spoken to) tell untruths to sign you up.

Unless people speak out more, nothing will change.

The fact of the matter is if you purchase a rogers product such as the iPhone then by default you have tacitly agreed/condoned thier pricing. Then complaining is essentially a waste of time and effort. I do agree with you that their service and pricing is dismal to say the least. Maybe we the consumer should be less hypocritical, and keep our money in our pockets. But, sometimes our eyes are bigger than our stomachs…
