Confirmed: Apple Back to School Promo Starts Thursday

If you’ve been patient enough waiting for Apple’s annual Back to School Promo, the 2011 offer starts tomorrow, as confirmed by MacRumors. This time around though, there won’t be a rebate on an iPod touch as in the past, but a $100 iTunes Gift Card as earlier discovered by 9to5Mac.

As you can see from the following image, if you buy a Mac, you’ll get a $100 iTunes Gift Card to ‘spend in the Mac App Store’. Who’s excited for this? Or would you rather have a free iPod?

I’m glad I got my back to school deal in 2009.  This is not an incentive and I doubt it will affect sales from the normal month to month.

That is totally lame. Rather have the ipod, or what I was hoping for, 200 bucks off an iPad. Unimpressed.

It seems the old iPod rebates aren’t coming back. This new deal is not as hot as the old deal. Glad I got to experience it once!

That is a lame offer. Seriously. Especially given you can get a free XBox with PCs this year. People have been patiently waiting for the BTS promo… it would be VERY disappointing if this is all we were waiting for.

In a way it kinda makes sense.  It promotes the Mac App Store and it gives students essentially $100 of free software.  As a former engineering student the kind of software you need for school can be very expensive.  Getting an iPod, as nice as it was, it just gives you something else to spend money that you don’t have on.

Monetary value, of course, the iPod was worth more.

I got my Macbook Pro when the new line launched this year. I was considering waiting for the Back To School promo, but instead I got it on launch day. I’m not disappointed to be missing out on this.

Although what’s with the people dissing it, sure it’s no iPod, but it’s still free! And like Rizulli said, it can be used toward school programs. (Aperture? iWork? Sounds good to me!)

I bet it will take me 30 seconds to sell a new ipod touch for $100 cash…
