Here’s What Steve Jobs’ Starck-Designed Yacht Looks Like [PICS]

Back in April of this year French designer Philippe Starck confirmed he was working on Steve Jobs’ yacht, an ongoing project that would be continued with the latter’s wife Laurene Powell Jobs. Starck at the time said in an interview with a French radio station the yacht would “be quite revolutionary, if not very revolutionary.”

Well, now it appears that time has come as the yacht project has been completed, notes One More Thing. They were on the shipbuilder site Koninklijke De Vries in the Netherlands where the Jobs yacht was unveiled, and it looks like something out of the future. Check it out below:

The exterior is made out of aluminum and the yacht itself is roughly 70-80 metres long, according to OMT. Below, the wheelhouse houses seven 27″ iMacs to control the boat.

The Jobs family also gave iPods as gifts to the staff for working on the yacht, which according to OMT sources took 6-7 years from design to the completion of the boat.

Here’s a video of the yacht, named “Venus”:

What do you think of this incredible-looking yacht?

That’s what I was thinking. Maybe that’s just one gift out of a bunch of other gifts, who knows.

Gift should’ve been something non-apple. It’s like if I own a bakery and get someone to build a store sign, then at the end of the day give them leftover bread as gift for their hard work.

This thing is huge and I am sure it is extremely luxurious inside.

But this thing is ugly – square and slab sided. Looks more like a white two-storeys barge.

Ironic that this is Jobs’ boat as its the complete opposite of sleek.

Hideous.

Why would anyone, Steve Jobs included, want a 70m long boat? A man who lived in a regular family-sized house to a 70m yacht? I smell a hoax.

This is not a hoax. Jobs talked about this in the Walter Isaacson biography. He loved sailing with his family.

You should take a look at some of the rowboats (Octopus and Tatoosh, nothing like two helicopter decks to avoid that long walk when you just have to leave) owned by Paul Allen. Don’t know for sure, but Jobs may have been wealthier than Allen.

As for the Jobs yacht, it looks very odd. extremely long front deck, with the superstructure concentrated on the back end of the boar. I would have thought that Jobs’ sense of aesthetics would have demanded something more elegant.

Hmmm made out of aluminum? I wonder if there were any defects with scratches in the finish.
