iPhone 3GS Still Selling Hot After All These Years [Report]

According to a recent report by DigiTimes, Apple will ship 2 million iPhone 3GS units worldwide by the end of the Q4 2011. The sources believe that similar sales will continue next year with up to 1.6 million iPhone 3GS shipments in the first quarter of 2012. Today, the iPhone 3GS which was launched in 2009, has been relegated to the back of the iPhone pack. But Apple’s decision to offer the smartphone for free to AT&T customers seems to be paying off.

Citing from the source:

“Apple has been increasing its penetration into entry-level smartphone markets and the OEM production of iPhone 3GS has continued steadily with the volume likely to reach two million units in the fourth quarter of 2011 and 1.4-1.6 million units in the first quarter of 2012, according to industry sources.

Apple has been pushing the sale of its 8GB iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 pre-loaded with iOS 5 globally, and besides, AT&T has also been promoting iPhone 3GS to contract subscribers with zero subscription rates, the sources revealed.”

Meanwhile, sales of CDMA iPhone 4 are also looking strong with projected shipments of 800,000 to one million units in the fourth quarter of 2011.
