New iPhone 5 Announcement is ‘Just Weeks Away’ Says Apple Employee

According to the NYT, the iPhone 5 is just weeks away, according to an anonymous Apple employee:

We’re just weeks away from the announcement of the new Apple iPhone 5, according to an Apple employee who asked not to be named because he was not allowed to speak publicly for the company.

Earlier today, Case-Mate apparently leaked iPhone 5 cases. Case-Mate’s public relations had this to say to iPhoneinCanada.ca when we contacted them:

At this time, Case-Mate is not commenting on this matter

The NYT’s Nick Bilton references these exact images, as Apple employees he’s talked to said they’re potentially authentic, with Case-Mate possibly trying to utilize the early iPhone 5 hype to their advantage.

An engineer ‘familiar’ with the next generation iPhone says both internally and externally, the new device will be different from the iPhone 4. These specs are much aligned with what’s been rumoured:

– 8MP camera (possibly from Sony)
– A5 dual core processor

Bilton also refers his earlier scoop from March involving two other sources with knowledge of next-generation iPhone 5/iPhone 6 internals. They mentioned new there will be new processor made by Qualcomm to include NFC, for mobile payments that will be automatically linked to Apple’s 200 million plus iTunes accounts.

Look I love this blog, and come to every several days to see whats new in the world of iphone, I aint complaining about the post. But honestly, for most of us, the iphone 4 is still atleast only half way thru its life cycle, and apple is making it a whole big deal with their propaganda of “lost iphone in bar” and a super delayed IOS 5 just to create unnecessary hype to convince iphone 4 buyers to unecessarly upgrade to iphone 5, thats whats anoying.

The funny thing about this is that Apple has created almost NO HYPE. its everyone else that is creating the hype.

I dont get what you are doing on an iphone blog if you don’t care about iphone related news and hype???

I agree with ET.  I have had an Iphone for 3 years and to be honest, every Iphone since has been mostly hype.  Kudos to Apple for creating a fanatic customer base, I’ll bet RIM wished they could do that half as well.  I will likely upgrade my phone this year to Iphone 5, but only if the phone has significant improvements.  Iphone is great for internet and email (except if you have Mobile Me), but when it comes to using the phone for talking, the Iphone is very poor.  I am hoping Apple pulls off an innovative product but I am not going to hold my breath.
