[Update] Case-Mate Accidentally Leaks iPhone 5 Cases, Reveals A Completely Re-designed Handset

Update: I contacted my rep at Case-Mate, and this was their response from their PR department:

At this time, Case-Mate is not commenting on this matter.

Excellent marketing, or an actual mistake?

– Gary

Just a few hours back, we published the leaked iPhone 5 screen protector story suggesting a larger display with a wider home button. But now, famous handheld protection cases manufacturer Case-Mate accidentally published about 6 different (caught by BGR) case designs on its website which clearly indicate a complete re-designed iPhone 5. As previously speculated, these iPhone 5 cases revealed a lighter, thinner handset with an aluminum back just like the iPads and the first generation iPhone.

BGR says:

“We’re loving the radical new body shown in the images.”

“these cases suggest it will have tapered edges and a slim profile as well. Finally, the images appear to an aluminum back on the fifth-generation iPhone, which also jibes with earlier reports.”

Even though Case-Mate has now pulled the iPhone 5 cases from its website (and is now conveniently a landing page for newsletter sign ups), they leave us drooling on the speculated super slim profile more than ever! We’ve contacted them for clarification and will report back, stay tuned.

I agree. These rumours are getting annoying. Not that they shouldn’t all be reported, but just because each one gets me that much more frustrated that I don’t know what the next iPhone will be. Why doesn’t Apple just announce the damn thing so we can put these rumours to rest?

I wonder if the increase of “leaks” today indicates an imminent announcement. Especially a slip like this one, seems like Case Mate may have been prepping their website to display their new iPhone 5 cases knowing that Apple is set to announce it tomorrow, and someone accidentally hit the “live” button. Here’s hoping.

Uhhh…completely redesigned?  It’s still a rectangle, the camera is still in the same spot, the lock button is still in the same spot, the headphone jack is still in the same spot, the volume controls look the same and are still in the same spot.

It’s a minor redesign.  I’m getting tired of the sensationalism tied to an updated iPhone.  Yeah, they’ll make small tweaks to it’s shape and appearance, but 90% of the visual design of the phone is the same as it was Day 1, and these images show nothing that really contradicts that.

I for one wouldn’t really want a much wider phone, my iPhone 4 fits snugly in quite a few handy little spots 🙂

The all around glass was the best thing to ever come to the iphone, right after retina display

I agree..
am I the only one that doesn’t like this thicker at the top thinner at the
bottom design?  Not to mention the ugly aluminum back v.s. the beautiful
glass back… I really hope this isn’t the final design. 🙁   And the wider button?? WHY?  The only thing good about this phone is the
wider screen..

I completely agree. I find the iPod touch and the iPad boring. The iPhone 4 actually looks unique and beautiful. I’ve had my iPhone 4 for a year and it hasn’t cracked or scratched and I’ve dropped it countless times. To me they are going backwards with the design. Anyone can make a phone with tapered edges and aluminium back but no phone looks as beautiful as the iPhone 4. I hope for a similar but slimmer iPhone 4 design.

Woah. I just read the page that they put up in place of the images. That’s quite a bit of speculation for a high-profile iPhone case to post publicly, especially from the alleged point of view that they have some inside information.

Notice how there isn’t a cutout for the silent switch. Makes sense from the earlier rumours stating that it has been moved to the right.

Not sure I’m liking the tapered edges though… Love the flat back of the iPhone now.

Actually there is a cutout… but it’s on the right-hand side. You can see the re-located silent switch in a few of the images.

Sweet. I like the redesign. And a speculated October release. Even better. Just in time for my birthday. And to all you nay sayers. Give it a rest. Go get a sumsung or something. Lol.

Looks great, but I really  liked the metal volume buttons on the iPhone 4. The plastic ones on my iPod touch 2nd gen worked like crap after 1 1/2 year of use. The ones shown here look like black plastic. And yah, a glass back isn’t the most practical thing in the world, but it is beautiful.

But Anyway, a larger screen, thinner profile and a hopefully lighter handset would still be a step up.

Man! I really thought we would have at LEAST heard about an Apple event by now… Unless we hear something tomorrow, I highly doubt we see an October 7th release like many have speculated.

The iPhone 4 looks way better and sexier with the glass back.

I’m guessing apple didn’t like the iPhone 4 glass design and beautiful design. Seems like they are going to make it Look boring like the rest of the iDevices. Oh what’s that? It’s slimmer? Hmm.. Oh the home button is wider?! What peoples fingers are so fat they can’t press the home buttons on the current iDevices?
