Re-enabling DFU mode in Mac OS X 10.5.6 to Jailbreak and Unlock your iPhone

The other day, iPhone Fan posted about how the latest update to Mac OS X 10.5.6 had trouble recognizing the iPhone in DFU mode. The problem with this is that come December 31st, when the software unlock arrives for the iPhone, some people won’t be able to unlock their phones since you will need a jailbroken phone to complete the process. But fear not, a few simple steps have been announced to allow your iPhone to be recognized in DFU mode while using 10.5.6.

Before you begin this process, you need to make sure that you are logged into your Mac as the administrator, and when asked, you have to provide the administrator password.

• Next, you have to download the script from here.
• Once the file has downloaded, double click it to unzip the archive.
• Then double-click “FIX_DFU_10_5_6”.
• The readme opens up, click OK.
• A window will then pop-up telling you that the necessary caches for booting are being updated, and that a system restart will happen once complete. Click OK and wait approximately 30 seconds for it to complete and then restart.

Voila, just like that, DFU mode is now enabled in OS X 10.5.6, and you will be able to unlock your iPhone on December 31st!   This is of course if you have the 2.11.07 or earlier baseband on your phone.  Not having a Mac myself (yet), I haven’t been able to test this procedure out, but give it a try.
