Review: AV/USB Cables for iPhone from usbfever.com
There are times when you want to watch your iPhone videos on a full-sized TV, and certainly there are many ways to accomplish this, but one of the most simple is by getting a set of AV cables, and plugging it right in.
Today I will be reviewing a set of Audio Video and USB Charge cables from our good friends as usbfever.com.
One of the major benefits of having a set of RCA AV cables is that you can take your iPhone anywhere and show off your videos to friends/family, etc. You can share funny/interesting video podcasts without having to gather around the phone, or you can watch any iTunes TV episodes you’ve purchased from the comfort of your living room – easily. When I tested these cables they worked right the first time, and every time. Simple as plugging in a lamp.
Although I happen to have a computer configuration which allows me to watch any videos on my TV, I still found that downloading my daily Yoga Podcast directly onto my iPhone and plugging it directly into my TV was much, much easier. As an added bonus these particular cables come with a USB charge cable built right in, however this cannot be used to Sync your iPhone. Also, it’s fully compatible with most iPods, for those Multi-Apple households.
Although this doesn’t support HD, it’s still a great quick solution for connecting your iPhone to a full sized TV, and the quality is surprisingly good. I definitely recommend these cables if you’re looking for a solution like this. I do wish that it had Sync capabilities, but I rarely want to sync while I’m watching something anyways, at least it can Charge at the same time.

Quick question: 3G compatible?
For anyone who’s curious, I tested this out on my 5th Gen Video iPod – and they cables seem to work fine there too — even though that’s not listed.
Yes, dash the complete list of compatablity is as follows:
– iPhone 3G (or iPhone 2.0)
– iPhone 2G (or iPhone 1.0)
– iPod Classic (6th Generation)
– iPod Touch 2nd
– iPod Touch 1st
– iPod Nano 3rd
– iPod Nano 4th
I just noticed now that 5th Generation Video iPod isn’t on that list, which is what I own — going to try that out later.
Quick question, I see that there is a firmware limit (i.e. up to FW 2.0), does this mean that at some point, you won’t be able to continue using these cables due to firmware upgrades?

Well, there’s two sets basically, one for up to 2.0 and one for firmware versions after 2.0. The 2.0+ cables have been working with every firmware version since 2.1 on, and can’t say for certain but suspect they’ll continue to work until major firmware change (like 3.0 or somesuch).

About 2 weeks ago I was looking to purchase one of these cables but thought I should wait until a new FW release. I might have to research this brand and see how they are.

I’ve tried several such “Chinese” devices with my iPhone 3G and all have failed once Apple released a newer firmware… something about a cloned chip in the cable. The “Chinese” cables are $10us, docking stations $21us… does the “chip” in this thing actually work?
Do even Apple’s own $70cdn cables work with the current firmware on the iPhone 3G?
The same exact cable is $8 with shipping on eBay… Why pay more? They’re both made and shipping from China.
