Rogers/Fido Announce iPhone 4 Activation/Upgrade Pricing, 6GB Data Plan Returns

Today is a great today for Canadians as the pricing for the contract and outright iPhone 4 has finally been confirmed!

In the USA, France, Germany, Japan, and United Kingdom, iPhone 4 pre-orders went live on June 15, 2010 for a launch date of June 24, 2010. At the time, it was confusing to why Canada was left out of that country list.

Now, one month later on July 30 2010, it is Canada’s launch day.

iPhone 4 Purchasing Methods

Canadians will have three methods to get their iPhone 4:

1.) Canadians will be able to order the unlocked, full price iPhone 4 16/32GB in Black through the Apple Canada Online Store starting Friday July 30. Any online orders are shipped to the billing address (no store pickup).

2.) As an alternative for the unlocked iPhone 4, customers can also visit their local Apple Store to purchase an outright, unlocked iPhone 4 starting Friday July 30. There will be line-ups this weekend.

3.) For customers that want iPhone 4 locked on contracts with activations or upgrades (usually with promotional pricing), visit your local Apple Store or Canadian wireless dealer (Rogers, Bell, Virgin, Fido, Telus) store starting Friday July 30. There will be line-ups this weekend.

To summarize, if you want your iPhone 4 IMMEDIATELY, do either method 2 or method 3 above.

Please note that the iPhone 4 is limited to two per customer.

Canadian iPhone 4 Pricing

Canadian pricing for the iPhone 4 is as follows when purchased at an Apple Store (or on contract from a Canadian wireless dealer):

iPhone 4 (Black Only; White Delayed Until Further Notice)

  • 16GB: $159 locked on contract; $649 unlocked without contract
  • 32GB: $269 locked on contract; $749 unlocked without contract

Note: Any iPhone 4 purchased at a Canadian wireless carrier store will be locked to that carrier no matter the price paid. However, if purchased at full price from an Apple Store, the iPhone 4 will be unlocked. If purchased on contract from an Apple Store, the iPhone 4 will be locked to a Canadian wireless carrier.

The iPhone 3GS is also available at a new price:

iPhone 3GS (Black)

  • 8GB: $99 locked on contract; $549 unlocked without contract

Note: The iPhone 3GS purchased at a Canadian wireless carrier store will be locked to that carrier no matter the price paid. However, if purchased at full price from an Apple Store, the iPhone 3GS will be unlocked. If purchased on contract from an Apple Store, the iPhone 4 will be locked to a Canadian wireless carrier.

Rogers Activation & Upgrade Pricing

If you activated or upgraded your Rogers iPhone on a contract between January 1, 2009 and June 7, 2010:

  • You are eligible for at least $250 off the no-term device price. That puts the iPhone 4 16GB for $399 and iPhone 4 32GB for $499 on a new 3-year voice and data plan.

If you activated or upgraded your Rogers iPhone on a contract before December 31, 2008:

  • You are eligible for $490 off the no-term device price for the iPhone 4 16GB and $480 off the no-term device price for the iPhone 4 32GB (promotional pricing). That puts the iPhone 4 16GB for $159 and iPhone 4 32GB for $269 on a new 3-year voice and data plan.

If you activated or upgraded your Rogers iPhone 3G in 2008 and then upgrade again between June 19, 2009 and September 15, 2009:

  • You are eligible for $490 off the no-term device price for the iPhone 4 16GB and $480 off the no-term device price for the iPhone 4 32GB (promotional pricing). That puts the iPhone 4 16GB for $159 and iPhone 4 32GB for $269 on a new 3-year voice and data plan.

Fido Activation & Upgrade Pricing

Fido also has an iPhone 4 promotion.

For customers who entered into a Fido agreement on or before December 31st, 2008, are eligible for the same agreement pricing as new customers when they renew their voice and data agreement. In other words, $159 for 16GB and $269 for 32GB.

Customers who do not qualify for the above offer are eligible for a $250 credit off the no-term price when they reset their voice and data term to a 3-year agreement.

Based on discounts, iPhone 4 will cost:

  • 16GB iPhone 4: $399 ($250 off) or $159 ($490 off)
  • 32GB iPhone 4: $499 ($250 off) or $269 ($480 off)

In addition, customers may contribute all accumulated FidoDollars towards their upgrade, which can be used at a Fido store or Apple Store.

Rogers/Fido $30 6GB Data Plan Returns

Effective July 30 2010, smartphone customers who activate on a three-year voice and data contract can choose the Rogers/Fido 6GB data plan for $30.

Normally, Rogers/Fido charge $30 for 1GB of data.

This data plan can be added to any in-market voice plan before September 30, 2010. At this time, it seems that September 30, 2010 is the expiry date for this offer. If you are a new customer or existing, you are eligible for the $30 6GB data plan and once you add the plan, the plan is permanent unless you take it off (like any other data plan).

iPhone 4 MicroSIM Card

For the MicroSIM card, if the iPhone 4 is purchased at a Canadian wireless carrier store or Apple Store, the customer will receive one MicroSIM card for use with a Canadian wireless carrier at no charge.

Additional MicroSIM cards will be charged accordingly.

I checked the HUP elegibility and shows “You are eligible to purchase the 16GB iPhone 4 at $649 or the 32GB iPhone 4 at $749” WTF!!!!???? I bought my iPhone 3G Nov 2008. THis is BS!

You have a mistake in the article. For Rogers it should read:

“Did you activate or upgrade your Rogers iPhone on a term contract between January 1, 2009 and June 7, 2010?”

NOT

“If you activated or upgraded your Rogers iPhone on a contract between January 1, 2010 and June 7, 2010:”

Rogers upgrade page tells me I have to pay $649 or $749 for the iPhone 4 depending on the storage size.

I upgrade my 3G to a 3GS between the dates indicated above, but Rogers shows that I get zero discount.

Where did you get the information that, if you had a 3G, and upgraded again between June 19 and September 15, 2009 to the 3GS, that you would get it for the lower price?

Cool. Will be lining up tomorrow morning. Just hope they have enough for everybody.

Any idea if Apple store will hand out numbers (once the employees are in) to people who are inline so at least one would know they have a unit for them so the time lining up is no in vain. If one does not have a number or something, at least he/she can go home, etc.

Is the $30/6GB plan really that good of a deal considering you still have to pay a minimum of $25 for a voice plan, plus a minimum of $12 if you want caller ID/voice mail? Seems a bit much.

Do people really burn through that much data?

The eligibility tool on the rogers website is completely broken. No matter what number you use it always says you have to pay 649 or 749.

I dont go over 1 gb, but i have been dangerously close. I have to watch my usage very carefully due to tethering. It would be nice to not have to worry so much

The 30$ 6G plan is great.. but then buying an unlocked phone and getting a 3year contract because of the 6G also SUCKS!! There HAS to be a better way of getting discounts when you pay for the phone up front! its just illogical to pay the same 65$ price if the aren't giving you ANYTHING!!

I bought a 3g in 08, and i have upgraded in 09 for a 3gs, they says in their price post that i will be eligible for the best price 159$, i went to check on rogers just to be sure with their online HUP program, it's told me that i will need to pay 649$!!! should i need to call rogers before going to a rogers store ???

Me too. I think the tool is just broken… I purchased my 3G in the summer of 2008. Then I upgraded to the 3GS in the summer of 2009. If you're in the same boat, then we get them for 159/269 😀

I am so happy with the $159 price! It is all worth it, even if we did find out at the last possible second! I was going to cancel the data plan in the month but for 6GB I may cancel my home internet and just tether from my iphone always.

Hi guys. I have two questions regarding Fido and Rogers upgrade options. And I'm sure a few of you here are wondering the same thing,

1. Rogers: Do you have to have a plan in which you pay more than 100 $ a month to be able to benefit of a discount if you, say, upgraded your phone not too long before june 7th 2010? As was the case last year?

2. Fido: If you upgrade on a new 3-year plan while benefiting from their early upgrade policy, will there be any of this 'stacking of contracts' idiocy I've read about yesterday on this site (so that your new 3-year plan will kick in AFTER the end of the plan you're currently on).

I'm at the end of my contract with Fido and was wondering if I should switch to Rogers based on their upgrade policies.

Thanks.

I'm around 1 year and 4 months into my 3 year fido agreement. How much do you guys think I would be able to get the iPhone 4 for ? I still have my 3g and never upgraded to a 3gs.

Thanks a lot Ex.

Also: So there is no stalking of contracts on Rogers? If you upgrade early, you're simply on a new 3-year plan?

To bad I won't be able to use my fido dollars then, because I'll clearly swich to Rogers.

I bought my iPhone 3G in June 2008 and have not upgraded at all and the tool says I have to pay the full $649. It's definitely broken

Eva

Either their eligibility tool is broken or they lie. My husband bought a iPhone in February 2009 on a 3 year contract, but according to the eligibility tool, his HUP is the full out price for an iPhone, not the $399/499 they advertise for anyone who activated between January 2009 and June 2010.

Geek
Geek

I upgraded to iPhone 3G on January 4, 2009. That's the last HUP I did. The Rogers tool says I am not eligible, that I have to pay $6xx or $7xx for a new iPhone 4. When I phoned Rogers, the rep said I had to wait until 2011 to upgrade. Does anyone have any insight into this? Would appreciate advice. Cheers.

So I'm guessing the $159/$269 price point should be the same with a Bell 3 year plan as well right?

change to rogers or bell ,this fido stacking of your contract is confirm and is unfair to costumers, i just call fido and is nothing they can do,is company policy.
If i upgrade right now i will be signing a 4 years and 2 months contract…switch to rogers or bell my friend.

I renewed my 2.5 year old contract in June, but never got a HUP to wait for iPHONE, chceker says 649/759

Im a little dissaponted…. for people who's going to buy it unlock…

According to the Bell paper posted the BGR, the promo for 6 Gb + iPad is good for no contract, 1 yr 2 yr or 3yr…. so that's an option…

It's good to see that you're iPhone would be cheaper like 160-260…. but it's still 3yrs… grrrrr…

The “Upgrade Eligibility” button at MyRogers confirms for me what I suspected… I can upgrade to the 16GB for $649! WOOHOO. In other words, full price. I will be sticking with my decision to buy outright from Apple online.

yeah I'm in the same boat, bought a 3G on day 1 in 2008, then did early upgrade to 3gs in july of 2009. According to that report I am eligible for the $159/$269 pricing. If that's true then wow I am impressed. Still might go with factory unlocked from Apple tho…
