16″ MacBook Pro Video Cards Compared: 5600M vs 5500M [VIDEO]

The in the week leading up to WWDC, Apple released a new video card upgrade for its 16-inch MacBook Pro, offering an optional AMD Radeon Pro 5600M GPU, which the company says brings a 75% speed increase compared to the 5500M predecessor.

“With its 40 compute units and 8GB of High Bandwidth Memory, this powerhouse GPU brings a new level of desktop-class graphics power to MacBook Pro,” explains Apple.

How does the AMD Radeon Pro 5600M compared versus the Radeon Pro 5500M when it comes to video editing?

Max Yuryev released a video detailing the differences below, when it comes to application use within Premiere Pro, Davinci Resolve 16 and Final Cut Pro X, when it comes to 4K and 8K video editing.

In the end, Yuryev says only those working with full uncompressed high-resolution video should take the extra plunge for the AMD Radeon Pro 5600M if your budget allows, as some editing times were slashed in half. Those editing compressed footage? “You don’t need to spend the extra money,” says the reviewer.

On Apple.ca, the AMD Radeon Pro 5600M is a $900 CAD upgrade for the 16-inch MacBook Pro.
