Apple has released a firmware update for their discontinued AirPort Express wireless router, bringing forth AirPlay 2 support. Talk about a generous and surprise move nobody saw coming!
According to Apple, “Firmware update 7.8 adds AirPlay 2 support to 802.11n AirPort Express base stations.”
To install the firmware update, launch the AirPort Utility iOS app or on your Mac, and you should see the update available for install. Your base station will automatically restart after installing the update.
According to 9to5Mac, once you install this firmware update, you’ll be able to assign your AirPort Express location in the Home app on iPhone, which is handy if you have a speaker connected to your wireless router.
Earlier today, Apple released a new supplemental update for macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 for 2018 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar users.
